Shades of Loving Souls

Check out what Katiebabs found via Anna from Anna’s Book Blog. It’s the UK cover for Lover Mine by JR Ward, the next BDB novel.  I have to agree with Katie though…I’m not feeling this cover.  I haven’t seen the previous BDB UK covers, but hopefully the US publishers will keep up the trend they already have going.

Interviews:

NewRecord.com has an interesting article, Love in the Time of Vampires, discussing the rise in popularity of the paranormal romance genre.  Did you know that only 71 paranormal romance novels were published in 2000 and last year had over 900 ones released?  I knew the genre was flourishing, but damn is that an increase.

Sidhe Vicious Reviews is spotlighting a new author that everyone should check out.  It’s a new, free, ebook by Chris Buecheler called The Blood That Bonds. Head over for the details.

The Galaxy Express has an interesting question for you: Does Science Fiction Romance Need a Gene Roddenberry?  This is a really good article which I highly suggest everyone to read.

Lauren Dane has started a new Yahoo group in lieu of a discussion board.

SciFiGuy found the cover for the second novel in The Icarus Project series by Jackie Kessler and Caitlin Kittredge.  Shades of Gray is schedule to release on June 22, 2010.

Rachel Vincent has a new cover for My Soul to Save. I’m sure everyone has seen the new one by now, but what are your thoughts on it?  Harlequin Teen decided that they wanted to have a closer image of Kaylee on the cover, and while I get their idea, I don’t think they executed it well. Yes, there is a closer image of Kaylee, but half her face is cut off.  If you’re going to do a close-up, shouldn’t you have the entire face there?  I think what they really wanted was a closer image of the swirling letters.

LE News & Updates:
If you haven’t already, make sure you check out the Hiatus Contest that will begin tomorrow morning and go all week.  Quick rundown: five guest bloggers will appear this week, each post gives you two chances to enter the contest.

I’ll be gone all week, working on the new site design, which I hope to have up when I get back.  It’s a completely new design, which means there’ll be some new navigation changes, so be warned.  Since I’ll be looking at a beta site, I won’t have access to the live one, so this will be your last news post for the week. I’ll still be looking and you’ll get everything next weekend.  Until then, SciFiGuy is another great source for the latest covers and don’t forget to check out his latest Weekend Report.

I’m also working on getting caught up on all my reviews and they will be sporadically appearing throughout the week. Plus, I also have a guest post by Ginn Hale, author of Wicked Gentlemen.  So it shouldn’t be too quiet here, but I won’t be responding to comments.  So if you want me, come chat with me on twitter and facebook, I will be there all week.

Book Feature:
Check out what I just found over at SciFiGuyArdeur: Unauthorized Essays on Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series by Leah Wilson, which is going to be released December 1, 2009.

Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series is a literary sensation, thanks to its strong female hero, well-fleshed (both literally and literarily) characters and unabashed attitude toward sex. The world Hamilton has created is powerfully compelling and stunningly complex—and it gets deeper and richer, and more perilous, with every book.

Straddling the series’ dominant themes of sex and power, Ardeur gives Anita fans a deeper look into the dynamics, both personal political, that have kept readers fascinated throughout the run of the series. Why is the ardeur the very best thing that could have happened to Anita, personally (aside from all the sex it requires her to have with hot men)? How is Anita’s alternate United States a logical legal extension of our own? And as the series continues, what other bargains might Anita have to make with herself and others in order to keep the people she loves safe from harm?

I’m not going to go into this, because I so could, but this is a very hot topic in any LKH discussions.  I am so going to be reading this when it comes out.

Update: I found out that Lilith Saintcrow is a contributing author with her essay, Ambiguous Anita, which focuses on Anita as a transgressive, noir character (Thanks to Twitter). SciFiGuy also says that there is a humor essay by Cathy Clamp included.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
