Ghoulish Gatherings

The College Publisher Network has an interesting article on how the vampire is quickly becoming a cultural staple in our entertainment, and essentially, in our reality.

Interviews:

It’s time for another artist spotlight and today we have William Basso.  A lot of his work could be classified as “Dark Art” and I found a couple great pieces based around the next couple of days.  Between Halloween tomorrow, and the Day of the Dead on Saturday, this print, October Shadows, just seemed to screamed both holidays to me.  I have to say, when it comes to dark art pieces, there are some I’m not fond of, but each one always triggers some kind of emotion and Mr. Basso’s work is no different.  You should check out a few of his pieces.

Has anyone heard of Repo! The Genetic Opera?  It’s supposedly a new movie coming out this weekend and it stars Anthony Head Stewart (aka Giles from Buffy).  The Daily Nexus was at the prescreening and has an review up for it.  Basically, they say it can be summed up with this equation: dystopian future + repossessions of organs + the producers of “Saw” + rock opera + Paris Hilton = “What the fuck?” Does it sound strange enough for you yet?

The Knight Agency is having their own Hallopalooza and they’ve had Melissa Francis (Fangs for the Memories) and Marley Gibson (Things that go bump in the night) have already been around. Some others who will be stopping by are Lucienne Diver and Ron Kolek & Maureen Wood, for the New England Ghost Project. So head on over and check them out.

Fangs, Fur, & Fey is having their live call-in this afternoon at 3pm EST.  Here’s the details if you want to try and make it.  You can listen to it over at Blog Talk Radio. If you want to call in to ask a question, here’s the number to call: (347) 826-9684. Or if you would rather listen and ask questions online, you can do that too.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Well I’ve been ahead of the times for years because I’ve always loved vampire stories even when almost all of them were evil in the books (although I much prefer them as the hero or anti-hero now).

Well Repo does sound strange but I will be watching it if it has him in it… especially if he is singing!
