New Release Page Updated & More

Today’s artist spotlight is Linda Bergkvist and the featured print is called All that I love is gone.  I’m really enjoying the prints I’ve seen and she seems to have something for everyone.  Here are a couple more examples of her work:  Our Diabolical Rapture and Rose of My Innocence.

I found this interesting article over at Inside the Blogosphere where the topic of discussion is: In science fiction and fantasy, should sex be included in the narrative or not? Should there be different standards for its inclusion in young adult or adult literature?

For fans of Anne Bishop, check out what’s been added to her site.  It’s the excerpt for The Shadow Queen, which comes out March 2009.

Literary Escapism is going to host it’s first reading challenge in 2009!  It’s the New Author Challenge and I’m hoping it’s a little self-explanatory.  I started this challenge as a tweak on the 50 Book Challenge, and there were a few who joined me in doing that, but this year, I’m going to host it as a separate challenge.  So if anyone wants to join in with me, check out the Challenge page.

I  know it’s been awhile, but I’ve finally been able to update the New Releases page.  For some reason, my exporter isn’t working correctly and I’ve just found a way to work around it.  So the page has a smaller font now, but I’m still working on getting it back to the way it was.  Either way, there is one new feature…I’ve linked up all the books to amazon. So if you can pre-order it, there’s a link.  This also meant that I was double checking some of the release dates and I was able to put in quite a few.  Some that were labeled as being released May 2009 were in fact changed to 4/28/09.  There were a lot that had their dates changed, so make sure you look for your books.

My excitement level is going to skyrocket over the next year, I just know it.  Last week, it was announced that Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series was optioned for film and now Essential Pictures is already looking at locations in Scotland.  Nothing definitive, but enough that it caught the Scotland on Sunday’s attention.  There’s already speculation about who is going to play the roles of Jamie and Clare.  Two names that have been thrown out are James McAvoy and Keira Knightley.  I think I could see these two as the main characters, but I’m not sure yet.  One thing I know for certain, I can’t seen them doing Voyager or any of the books beyond that.  They would have to age 20 years and I don’t think they could pull that off.

Speaking of books to film…LKH announced that the Anita Blake series was optioned for film and it looks like it’s going to be a realty.  Thanks to SciFi Guy for pointing me towards this:

Lionsgate to produce Anita Blake for IFC
27/10/08
US cable network IFC has commissioned Lionsgate to make a two hour sci fi pilot based on vampire novel Anita Blake.

The series, which is based on a series of erotic fantasy books by Laurell K Hamilton, is set to be executive produced by X-Files and Final Destination producer Glen Morgan.

Craig Cegielski, EVP, programming and sales, Lionsgate International Television, told TBIvision that the Rainbow Media-owned broadcaster will air the two hour pilot next year, before deciding whether to order a full season. “It’s a sexier Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” he says.

Another interesting article….Mental Floss is talking about the science behind our favorite monsters.  One medical explanation for the idea of vampires can be placed on rabies infections.  After watching a few vampire movies, Spanish neurologist Juan Gómez-Alonso, noticed certain similarities between rabies infected victims and vampire folklore and became a study on the topic in the 1990s (Neurology, 1998).

The Magnificent Eight Blog Tour has commenced and the authors are adding up some great prizes.  I started out at Anya Bast’s site, but you can also begin anywhere you want.  Just make sure you get to all eight for a chance to win some awesome prizes.  Here is the rest of the Magnificent Eight: Jaci Burton, Lauren Dane, Megan Hart, Joey Hill, Patrice Michelle, Mandy Roth, and Shiloh Walker.

Bitten by Books is throwing a Book Giveaway Carnival and it’s up and running as we speak.  They are giving away more than $500 worth of books, so make sure you check it out.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I definitely can’t wait for the Anita Blake to be made into a series! Wow. Just too bad it is unlikely that they’ll air it over here in Denmark anyway. The books are not even translated, so….but great news anyway!
