Oh no….cover your ears….FANGIRL SQUEE!!!  Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series has been optioned for film! Not only optioned, but there are plans in the works. Check out this article from Variety.

Essential Pictures has launched development of Outlander as a potential franchise based on the Diana Gabaldon series of fantasy novels.

The newly minted shingle’s out to directors with an adaptation from Randall Wallace (Braveheart); the goal is to start production next spring. Gabaldon’s series of six novels center on an 18th century Scottish Highlander and his time-traveling wife.

I am so excited. I love this series. I mean, re-read every novel in the series right before the new one comes out and then I go out and buy the hardcover.  I can’t wait to see the film adaption.  I wonder who they’ll get to play Jamie and Clare.  Any suggestions?

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. WHOA! Sign me up for that outlander movie! Oh, Oh, let it be good. Though, what about the parts…you know…”I canna be gentle with ye, lassie…” Will they cut those? I wouldn’t much like that. And the wedding night? The belt? Will it be like trying to run the sopranos on network tv? Who will be Jamie???

  2. I think they should die Richard Armitage’s hair red and have him play Jamie. Though he’s not beefy enough. In fact, scratch that whole idea. Please let it not be Tom Cruise.
