The Wild Sight by L. McGary

An Irish tale of deadly deeds and forbidden love.  So does that intrigue you yet?  That’s the premise behind Loucinda McGary’s the Wild Sight.  Rylie Powell shows up in Ireland looking to find her father.  What she finds is a man who could possibly be her brother,  a bedridden man who can barely speak, and gets embroiled into a criminal mess that leaves her sinking.

The Wild Sight brings us a really great love story between two individuals who probably wouldn’t have met without a twist of fate.  The tension between Rylie and Donovan is believable and yet not too out there considering they start out thinking they might be related.  In all actuality, the characters of Rylie and Donovan are well development and we get a lot of insight into their personal choices.  The plot surrounding Rylie and Donovan worked out well for a romance.  It wasn’t so obvious that you knew who the killer was or what was going to happen next; however, when he was revealed, it made total sense.  I was surprised by who the killer was and yet I wasn’t.  I like stories like that.

There was a slight paranormal element in the novel, however, I felt it was a little off balance.  Donovan is a clairvoyant, but he considers his gift more of a curse than anything, so he avoids using it at all costs.  His attitude never really changes, but he does end up using it a lot at the end of the novel.  I think that’s what triggered the imbalance for me.  He sparingly uses it during the novel, but then we end up with this huge metaphysical battle at the end that it seemed a little out of place.  That was probably the only part of the novel that really didn’t click with me.

Overall, I enjoyed The Wild Sight.  It was a little slow getting into it, but once I did I enjoyed every moment of it.  This is definitely a must read for anyone who loves the romances, and even if you don’t like a paranormal element in your novels, it won’t bother you with this one.

  1. Hi Cindy,

Yes, I’ve been to a place that made me feel as if it was home. We lived there, then hubby dragged me back to California. Now I’m back in that place. It’s called Wyoming. I live in Cody now and love it, love it, love it. I’m originally from Arizona, lived in California for years, but no other place ever made me feel as if I’d arrived home like Wyoming does. Thank you for letting me comment.
