Weekly Geeks #24 – Author Spotlight

So this weeks Weekly Geeks challenge is to spotlight an author and give out some fun facts about them.  Here are the details:

  1. Choose a writer you like.
  2. Using resources such as Wikipedia, the author’s website, whatever you can find, make a list of interesting facts about the author.
  3. Post your fun facts list in your blog, maybe with a photo of the writer, a collage of his or her books, whatever you want.
  4. Come sign the Mr Linky below with the url to your fun facts post.
  5. As you run into (or deliberately seek out) other Weekly Geeks’ lists, add links to your post for authors you like or authors you think your readers are interested in.

So I have to chose a writer I like?  Have you seen the list of authors I like?  Actually, it was a lot easier to decide since I just finished One Silent Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon, so I’m going to write about her.  Here’s a couple of facts I found out about her via Wikipedia

  1. Her website averages 120,000 visitors per week with visitors coming from over 40 countries.
  2. In addition to her 53 fiction works, Kenyon has also wrote 3 nonfiction titles – Character-Naming Sourcebook, Everyday Life in the Middle Ages, and Writer’s Complete Fantasy Reference.
  3. She graduated college with an interdisciplinary major combining medieval history and language with Classical Studies as well as minors in philosophy, psychology, and French.
  4. Kenyon has her Ph.D in History and has worked as a history professor.
  5. Kenyon is severely dyslexic.
  6. She is ambidextrous.
  7. She plays the guitar, flute, piano, and the drums.
  8. Is also known as Kinley MacGregor and between the two names has penned more than 8 different series.
  9. The rarest of her books is the e-novel Born of Fire (one of the first e-books ever published in the mid 1990’s and a launch book for Dreams-Unlimited) which commands well over $400.00 any time it appears at auction.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I found out about the new author challenge from a post I read at Cheryl’s Book Nook. I thought it sounded like a great idea and am eager to discover new authors. I had to take a look around and notice the “weekly geek” is a neat idea too.

  2. fascinating! I’m always impressed that someone with a PhD – in history, no less! which requires tons of reading and writing, also suffers from dyslexia. just, wow. and, since I don’t read this genre – that I’ve never heard of her. eek. You have the most enlightening posts!
