Which 2009 Challenges?

Is it strange that I’m already thinking of next year’s challenges?  There are still some challenges I haven’t completed this year, but there are some I can’t wait to do again next year.  I’m hoping there’ll be another 1st in a Series challenge, which was hosted by Thoughts of Joy; I’m hosting the New Author Challenge this year since I had so much fun with it; and I had a blast with the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril Challenge, over at Stainless Steel Droppings. But what about next year?

I’ve been looking around and I’m floored by how many there are.  There’s so many to choose from, that it’s a little overwhelming.   Has anyone else started looking for new challenges?  What have been some of your favorites?  Which challenges are you going to be doing next year?  Can you recommend any?

Right now, I’m looking at these three challenges…

  • New Authors – hosted by little old me.  This one will be no problem for me.  I just took a look at my TBR list and I have 581 books listed, with 150 being new authors.  So it’s just going to be a matter of getting the books and reading them (and hopefully clearing my TBR list up a little).
  • R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril Challenge – hosted by Stainless Steel Droppings.  The challenge runs from September 1st – October 31st, so there isn’t any details about it yet.  You’ll have to wait until late next year.  However, if Carl does it next year, it’ll be the 4th one, so if you want to check out the previous ones, you can see them at the R.I.P.ing Yarns Review Site.
  • Support Your Local Library – hosted by J. Kaye’s Book Blog.  Just the idea of this challenge makes it awesome.  How many of us go to the library on a regular basis?  Who doesn’t love standing in the  middle of the stacks and absorbing all those books.  Ian and I try to go at least once a week and he loves it there as much as I do.  So this is a great challenge and will go perfectly with my New Authors challenge.  With this challenge, I’m suppose to decide on how many I’m going to try to get from the library and I’m going for 50.  Since I’m trying 50 new authors, I don’t necessarily want to buy the books until I try them, right?

For 2009, I’m going to start tracking my challenges a little differently.  When I first joined the 2008 Challenges, I had made lists of books that I was going to read.  Yea….those lists have changed so much that I don’t remember what the original ones look like anymore.  Instead, I’ll create lists for some of the challenges, that way if I’m lost for what to read next, I can go to my list, but on some, I’ll add the books as I read them.  I’ll create a list for the new authors, but I’ll add the books I get at the library to that challenge as I get them.  If you want to see how I’m doing with the 2009 Challenges, check the page, but no guarantees that it’ll be up before Jan 1st.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I’ve never done a challenge before but they sound like fun! :) I have a hard time keeping up with all that I’m already doing though, so it probably wouldn’t be a great idea to spread myself thinner time-wise.

Yeah, that’s my philosophy on reading challenges too. I go to my challenges when I can’t decide on what to read and will do the whole “spin the finger and where it lands” game.

  3. I’m going to try the new author challenge. I’ll say 25 to be safe but aim for 50. Shouldn’t be too hard since I get books to review and am always scouting the web for new vampire stories to check out.

Some popular vampire series authors I haven’t read yet include Stephanie Meyer and Charlaine Harris. I know! You’d think I’ve been under a rock or something. LOL.

Sigh…So many books, so little time.
