Guest Author: Alexandra Ivy

Literary Escapism is excited to welcome author Alexandra Ivy to the floor today. Alexandra is getting ready to release the fifth novel in her Guardians of Eternity series, Darkness Unleashed, which, I am currently eating up.

A scarred recluse, Jagr makes no secret of his disdain for others’ company. But now, as a member of Chicago’s powerful vampire clan, he has certain obligations to fulfill. The latest: track down a missing Were pureblood and return her to her sister. The problem: Regan Garrett has no intention of complying. And though Jagr agreed not to harm an inch of this stubborn female’s distractingly tempting body, he’ll gladly kiss her into submission, awakening an urge he hasn’t felt in years. hell, in centuries…

Regan vowed never to be at the mercy of another man. That goes double for arrogant, steel-muscled vampires with eyes of ice. All Regan wants is revenge against those who imprisoned
her. She doesn’t need an ally. She certainly doesn’t need a mate. But soon soon Regan will have to choose–between a lust for vengeance, and a passion as dark and dangerous as the night…

Seduction Has a Dark Side…

Don’t tell me this doesn’t intrigue you. Want a chance to win a copy of Darkness Unleashed? Then stick around.

Hello to all and a huge thanks for allowing me to stop by. For those of you unfamiliar with me, I began my career writing historical under the name Deborah Raleigh before deciding to take the plunge into contemporaries. I started writing the first book just for my own pleasure, trying to discover what I liked to read. Slowly I developed my own voice and my own world and the Guardians of Eternity were born (well, in a manner of speaking). When Darkness Comes was the first book in the series published back in 2007 (jeez where does time go?) and it introduced a clan of vampires in Chicago (yummy, tasty, oh-my-god-gotta-have-me-some vampires). Each of the books is stand-alone although the previous characters tend to pester me until they are allowed an appearance. Darkness Unleashed is the fifth book in the series that has grown to include werewolves, demons and a host of other-worldlies with the starring role going to Levet who is a miniature gargoyle with a prima-donna attitude, an unpredictable talent for magic, and an overriding dream of becoming a game show host!

When I first started the series I really had no idea of what I wanted to do beyond sharing my love for the combination of paranormal and humor that Buffy captured. Don’t get me wrong, I love a dark, angsty hero as much as the next reader, but while my current hero, Jagr (Darkness Unleashed), is certainly dangerous and broody after centuries of torture, there is always a large collection of whacky characters to add a dash of amusement. I also like my heroines capable of kicking some serious butt. The days of a woman being tossed about by fate and waiting for some big, strong hero to come save her are thankfully over (hallelujah). Regan is a heroine who is out for revenge and nothing is going to stand in her way…certainly not an arrogant, insanely gorgeous vampire!

I hope you’ll enjoy the latest installment of the Guardians…I had a fabulous time with Jagr and Regan!

  1. This would be a new series for me and sounds like my kind of reads. I enjoy my heroes usually as the dark bad boy type!

  2. Became a fan of Literary Escapism

What do “I” prefer “my” heroes to be? Usually depends on my current mood at the time and the mood/setting of the book. I do like a fun, humerous character who likes to drop wise-cracks when the tension in the book needs to be lightened. The dark, broody types always managed to capture my attention; there just something about danger that attracts most people.

  3. I prefer dark and angsty. I like when a hero has a dark side, I think it’s sexy.

  4. I prefer the hero to be dark and angsty because I get to see them change with the help fo a heroine.

  5. There’s no reason a dark and angsty hero can’t have a humorous side. Maybe not whacky, but too much dark and angsty without a touch of humor thrown in for good measure will leave the character unbalanced…

  6. Thanks for stopping by Alexandra and thanks for the contest Jackie.

I like my heroes fun and with a sense of humor because, the way I see it, if you’re going to be knee deep in villains and sticky situations you might as well have a sense of humor about it.

  8. although logically i should like the wacky and fun heroes, i must say i am always drawn to the dark, brooding, angst riddled males. there’s just something about them. maybe, as was mentioned before, it’s that level of danger they bring, but i think it’s something else… i always love to read about that point where the people who seem to have lost hope find it again. and while in real life i’m a huge cynic about love and life in general, in fiction a person gets to explore all of those ideas that seem too hopeful for real life such as happily ever afters and one true loves. so, give me dark and angsty everyday, but make sure by the end of the book they experience something, hopefully a female, that brightens them up just a bit.

  9. I prefer my heros dark and brooding and riddled with angst. That way when they fall it’s always hard and surprising and so much fun to watch. Those types are harder to pin down I think but once they get pinned you just know you’ve got them.

  10. I prefer my heroes to be dark and angsty with a twist of humor. I like my characters to overcome obstacles in order to achieve happiness – although I do insist on happiness in the end.

    I like the unexpected laugh. : )

  11. See I love paranormal romance and my heros in those books are the six foot tall sexy vampires. I choose them because they give something to dream about in my life and I believe in following dreams. SO I would say my heros are dark and sexy because those are tow key factors in what I picture my dream man and what I dream of him coming to sweep me off my feet

  12. This sounds like a fun series. Sad to say it’s new to me but win or loose I need to find out more about it.

As for the vampires I prefer wacky and fun with a touch of bad boy darkness.

  13. I’ve always liked my heroes to be dark, brooding and angsty, I love paranormals and I don’t want to have fun vampires or werewolves.

  14. I like my hero’s to be both. I like it when they have to struggle with the dark side and love when they are tender and fun with their lovers. Deep characters are for me.

  15. I like my heroes whacky and fun. I love the hero who is strong, handsome, and smart and FUNNY!!! I love a hero who is a “smarty-pants!”
