2 More Challenges

I’ve found two more challenges I’m going to do next year…

Themed Reading Challenge
Goes from Feb. 1 to July 31, 2009 and is hosted by Caribou Mom.  The idea is to chose a goal of 4 to 6 books that are currently in your (physical or virtual) TBR pile that are connected by similar theme.  There are three different levels of participation, depending on how difficult you would like to make it, so I’m not entirely sure which level to chose just yet.  The list of books can change at any time, but I think these are the books I’m going to do with the theme of twisted fairy tales…

  1. Zel by Donna Jo Napoli
  2. Peter Pan in Scarlet by Geraldine McCaughrean
  3. Beauty: A Retelling of the story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley
  4. A Lion Among Men by Gregory Maguire

2nds Challenge
Goes from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2009, and is hosted by J. Kaye’s Book Blog. The idea of this one is to read a novel from an author you’ve only read once.  This one is a great one to do along with the 1st in a Series challenge and requires the same number of books – 12.  I don’t think I’m going to do the same 12 novels as the 1st in a series list, simple because I tend to read the entire series, or as many as I can, at the same time.  At the moment, here’s the 12 authors I’m going to read again.

  1. Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire
  2. Pure Blood by Caitlin Kittredge
  3. Rogue by Cheryl Brooks
  4. Beauty: A Retelling of the story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley
  5. The Beast in Him by Shelley Laurenston
  6. Eldest by Christopher Paolini
  7. Road Trip of the Living Dead by Mark Henry
  8. Kushiel’s Chosen by Jacqueline Carey
  9. The Mark of the Vampire Queen by Joey Hill
  10. Succubus on Top by Richelle Mead
  11. Poison Sleep by TA Pratt
  12. Scarlet by Jordan Summers
About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Hi Jackie!

If you’re actively looking for a 5th, I can recommend Juliette Marillier’s Sevenwaters trilogy — the first is a novelization of the Swan Brothers’ fairy tale, and the subsequent books are interesting expansions of the world. I’ll read anything Marillier writes, but I will concede that the 1st Sevenwaters book is definitely the best.

  2. Wait, Peter Pan in Scarlet is considered a sequel to Peter Pan? Well, that won’t work for my challenge then anyway. I want something that is twisted…something that is the same but not. I think that’s the theme I have going on at least.
