I’ve found two more challenges I’m going to do next year…
Themed Reading Challenge
Goes from Feb. 1 to July 31, 2009 and is hosted by Caribou Mom. The idea is to chose a goal of 4 to 6 books that are currently in your (physical or virtual) TBR pile that are connected by similar theme. There are three different levels of participation, depending on how difficult you would like to make it, so I’m not entirely sure which level to chose just yet. The list of books can change at any time, but I think these are the books I’m going to do with the theme of twisted fairy tales…
- Zel by Donna Jo Napoli
- Peter Pan in Scarlet by Geraldine McCaughrean
- Beauty: A Retelling of the story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley
- A Lion Among Men by Gregory Maguire
2nds Challenge
Goes from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2009, and is hosted by J. Kaye’s Book Blog. The idea of this one is to read a novel from an author you’ve only read once. This one is a great one to do along with the 1st in a Series challenge and requires the same number of books – 12. I don’t think I’m going to do the same 12 novels as the 1st in a series list, simple because I tend to read the entire series, or as many as I can, at the same time. At the moment, here’s the 12 authors I’m going to read again.
- Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire
- Pure Blood by Caitlin Kittredge
- Rogue by Cheryl Brooks
- Beauty: A Retelling of the story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley
- The Beast in Him by Shelley Laurenston
- Eldest by Christopher Paolini
- Road Trip of the Living Dead by Mark Henry
- Kushiel’s Chosen by Jacqueline Carey
- The Mark of the Vampire Queen by Joey Hill
- Succubus on Top by Richelle Mead
- Poison Sleep by TA Pratt
- Scarlet by Jordan Summers
Be aware that Peter Pan in Scarlet, even though it is an “official” sequel, has MANY mistakes compared to the J.M. Barrie’s original stories. Pretty sad.
Instead I recommend the only Peter Pan adventure faithful to Barrie:

BELIEVE!
Hi Jackie!
If you’re actively looking for a 5th, I can recommend Juliette Marillier’s Sevenwaters trilogy — the first is a novelization of the Swan Brothers’ fairy tale, and the subsequent books are interesting expansions of the world. I’ll read anything Marillier writes, but I will concede that the 1st Sevenwaters book is definitely the best.
Wait, Peter Pan in Scarlet is considered a sequel to Peter Pan? Well, that won’t work for my challenge then anyway. I want something that is twisted…something that is the same but not. I think that’s the theme I have going on at least.
Great lists of books. You have a lot to look forward to! I finally got my themed reading list up (here).
Greetings! I wanted to officially welcome you to the challenge. The more the merrier! :)
I like your theme – very imaginative! Glad to see you joining the challenge – hope it will be fun for you!
