Bookworms Carnival #40: Urban Fantasy/Gothic Literature Post-2000

I am on so many levels way behind on posting this. I humbly apologize to everyone and will get down on my knees and grovel if the need arises. I’ve been playing catch-up in a lot of areas (both on the blog and out of it) and I’m still trying to get through a lot.

But excuses aside….

WELCOME TO THE 40 EDITION OF THE BOOKWORMS CARNIVAL!

I have got to say that everyone came through.  A day or two before the deadline, I had three reviews that were submitted for this carnival.  I threw out a plea for more and look what I got!  Talk about a link salad.  There are some great novels being discussed below, so hopefully everyone will find something to whet their reading appetite.  But you’re not here to listen to me, here we go…

Janicu is sharing with us a few of her current favorite reads:

  1. Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire
  2. Sins & Shadows by Lyn Benedict
  3. Mark of the Demon by Diana Rowland
  4. Salt and Silver by Anna Katherine
  5. Wicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready – this happens to be one of my favorites as well. I love how Smith-Ready gave her vampires a severe case of OCD.
  6. Blue Diablo by Ann Aguirre

Nicola from Alpha Heroes is sharing with us a review of Marjorie M. Liu ninth Dirk & Steele novel, The Fire King .

Caitlin from Chaotic Compendiums has one that I’ve really been seeing around lately and actually have sitting on my desk right now. She shares her thoughts on John Ajvide Lindqvist’s Let the Right One In.

Alisa from the Book Bundle brings us a great review for Jocelynn Drake’s Nightwalker

Madeleine from Wordbird totally caught my eye with her review of Paula Morris’ Ruined.

Abigail from All Things Urban Fantasy is sharing her review of Dakota Bank’s Dark Time.

Swapna from S.Krishna’s Books brings us a little magic with her review of Jim Butcher’s Small Favor.

Brooke from the Bluestocking Guide has a review for Ann Cordwainer’s Modern Magic.

Jennifer from Reading with Tequila, who I happen to think has a fabulous blog name, gives us her opinion on the first two books in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga – Twilight and New Moon – just in time for New Moon’s release on Friday.

Robin of My Two Blessings brings us great review Rachel Vincent’s My Soul to Take and a fabulous review containing five mini reviews of Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris, Witching Moon by Rebecca York, R is for Ricochet by Sue Grafton, Hot Blooded by Lisa Jackson and 4.50 from Paddington by Agatha Christie

Elie from Ellz Readz and Robin of My Two Blessings both have great reviews of Gena Showalter’s Intertwined.

Kay from Kay’s Bookshelf wants to tell us about the first novel in Yasmine Galenorn’s Sisters of the Moon series with her review of Witchling.

  3. Ilona Andrew’s Magic Strikes – which happens to be one of my favorite authors
  4. Patricia Brigg’s Hunting Ground – another favorite of mine

Covet by JR Ward seemed to pique a lot of interest. Nicola from Alpha Heroes and Brenda from Moon Sanity have reviews for it.

Jennifer from Reading with Tequila is giving us the scoop on Kelley Armstrong’s Living with the Dead.

Check out the next BWC that’s being planned.  Do you have a review that would go with any of these themes?  If not, check out the list of upcoming carnivals, you might have something that’ll work with a future carnival or have something in your TBR stack that would work.

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Whoah! Exceptional list!
I discovered this carnival a few seconds ago through the Bibliofreak newsletter, and, well… Wow!
Lots of stuff here I’ve read, but far more that I haven’t – what a great resource to keep my reading list full.

    Great job!
