Pack Challenge by S. Laurenston

I was looking for something a little light and was quickly reminded of Shelly Laurenston’s Magnus Pack series. I read her story Miss Congeniality in the anthology When He Was Bad and decided she may just be wanted I needed, so I picked up a copy of the first novel, Pack Challenge.

All Zach Sheridan ever wanted was to become Alpha Male of his Pack and to be left alone. What he definitely didn’t need in his life was some needy female demanding his attention. What he never saw coming was the vicious, scarred female who not only demanded his attention but knew exactly how to get it.

Sara Morrighan knew this was the best she could expect from her life. Good friends. A nice place to live. And a safe job. But when Zach rode into her small Texas town with his motorcycle club, Sara knew she wanted more. She knew she wanted him. But after one sexy encounter with her dream biker, everything is starting to change. Her body. Her strength. That new thing she’s doing with the snarling. Even her best friends are starting to wonder what’s going on with her.

But this is only the beginning. Sara’s about to find out her life was meant for so much more. And Zach’s about to find true love with the one woman who makes him absolutely insane.

I have to say, I really enjoyed Pack Challenge, but that really doesn’t surprised me. Even after reading Miss Congeniality, I knew Laurenston was one I was going to enjoy and she didn’t prove me wrong.  I was introduced to some great characters and I have to say that I wasn’t expecting Sara Morrighan.  I’ve read some hard-assed female leads before, but I don’t think I’ve read anything that prepared me for her. She is the quintessential alpha bitch without a pack behind her.  She is actually quite amusing and when Zach shows up, the two of them together spark some amazing chemistry.  Watching the two dance around each other was fun and I’m glad they won’t be an easy pairing.  I have to say, of all the alpha pairs that I’ve read lately, these two are the perfect pair.

As for the plot, Pack Challenge was a total paranormal romance.  Yes there is a plot, but it really doesn’t take up that much of the story, well, a plot other than getting Sara and Zach together.  It adds enough spice to give Sara and the rest of the Magnus pack a headache, but the romance doesn’t center around it nor does it depend on its resolution.  The blending of the plot within the romance was good, but I will say that I am hoping we’ll see more of the Pride and I think we will in Here Kitty, Kitty, but more on that later.

Overall, this was a great fun and quick read.  Definitely what I was in the mood for and it did make me want to get the subsequential novels.

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much.
