the Hollow Dead

Dark Faerie Tales is starting to introduce me to way too many new novels. Not that this is a bad thing, but Angela just spotlighted the novel Picture the Dead by Adele Griffin and it sounds like a good novel for my Year of the Historical challenge for next year. Picture the Dead comes out May 1st.

Did anyone else enjoy Ironman?  Well, Suvudu has the first movei posted coming out for Ironman 2 and it features Mickey Rourke as the villain Whiplash.  I’m not familiar with the series, but he does look pretty bad ass.

John at Grasping for the Wind has a spectacular lineup planned for next weeks first Grasping for the Wind Invitational.  The Book Smugglers are going to kick start everything off with their Best Reads of 2009 and they are followed by a ton of other people.  Definitely go check it out this week when you have a moment.

Cracked.com has a great list of the 5 Authors More Badass Than The Badass Character They Created.  I recognized all of the characters and learned a bit about the writer behind them.  It’s definitely worth a read.

Interviews:

Kim Harrison is showing off some pages from her upcoming Hollows graphic novel.  There isn’t any words involved yet, but its still something fun to look at.

Nalini Singh has updated her website and she’s giving us a lot of new stuff.  The excerpt for Bonds of Justice is now front and center, which means its easy to find for those who haven’t seen it yet, and more importantly, she’s added a new short story called Star Kissed.

Catherine Karp, of Suburban Vampire, has a new post, Merry Scary Christmas, being featured at Horrorblips as one of twenty-six blogs that gave their own holiday highlights.

Katie from Babbling About Books is wondering if The Beginning of The End for Book Review Publications?.  With the news that Kirkus Reviews is closing after 80 years of providing literary reviews, is it possible that all print reviews are going to go by the wayside in favor of the Internet book bloggers like ourselves.  It’s a good question and it’s one she addresses really well.

Gotta love the Smart Bitches to enlighten us about the bad idea of publishing ebooks months after the hardcover release.  That’s right, Simon and Schuster CEO Carolyn Reidy, Brian Murray, chief executive of News Corp.‘s HarperCollins Publishers, and Lagardere SCA’s Hachette Book Group all announced that they plan to delay digital book releases until months after the hardcover releases in 2010.  Their reasoning – true readers have started buying ereaders and are no longer going after those hardcovers and are buying ebooks instead, that obviously is not good and must be stopped.  Seriously?!  I’m not even going to begin arguing against this because the Smart Bitches do it so well and in Dr. Seuss fashion.

Lurv a la Mode, with her fancy smancy snowy background, has a great list of upcoming YA covers that have been revealed.  There are a couple that grabbed my attention, so make sure you head over and check them out.

Contests:
Peter V. Brett is giving away an ARC of his upcoming novel, The Desert’s Spear.  Contest ends probably soon, but it doesn’t say.

Gena Showalter is giving away a copy of Twice as Hot.  Contest ends sometime next week – so don’t delay!

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
