The Dead Girls Dance by R. Caine

The title of the second novel in the Morganville Vampires series, The Dead Girls Dance by Rachel Caine is kind of misleading. There is a party where goth is the theme, but it was a chapter in the novel and that’s about it. The main plot revolves around a biker gang going after the vampires and the repercussions for the kids at Glass House. I actually enjoyed the plot more than what I was expecting from the title. Caine continues developing her characters, giving us more insight into their lives and how they got to be where they are. The relationships are evolving and we learn more about the dynamics of Morganville.

Overall, this was a good read, but it’s obviously teen fiction. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll read teen fiction, but I don’t need to be reminded about it. Caine makes several mentions about Claire’s age, making sure that we all know she’s only 16 and that she is still considered a baby in the town. There is one situation where her age needed to be said, but it wasn’t needed throughout the rest. That’s really the only thing I have against this series.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
