Kindle Cases

I love the Kindle Warranty Program.  Seriously.  I’ve only had my Kindle for less than 5 months and I’ve already had to replace the thing twice and they haven’t given me any problems both times.  However, I think it’s time to realize that my Leather Cover isn’t as great as it could be.  I know exactly what happened the first time around – it doesn’t like being dropped in a parking lot; however, I’m not really sure what happened this time around.  It ended up with a nice crack on the case and while the screen was okay, I was concerned for the innards.  I carry it around with me all the time in my purse and I’m thinking it’s not as protected as it could be.  So I’m on the hunt for a new case.  These are the two I’m looking at:

The first one is the M-Edge Touring Kindle Sleeve.

The M-Edge Touring Sleeve for Latest Generation Amazon Kindle is the must-have accessory jacket for the active eReader user. The Sleeve, made of durable and easy-to-clean neoprene, provides superior Kindle protection and includes a large exterior pocket for storage of chargers and other accessories. The M-Edge Sleeve zips closed using a hidden double zipper, which allows users access to all ports and the ability to charge their device without removing it from the case. The Sleeve offers full surface protection in a lushly padded case, while the soft grey polar fleece interior ensures your Kindle will always be cushioned in comfort. The M-Edge Accessories Amazon Kindle Touring Sleeve is a sporty case that provides rugged protection for your eReader. Sleeve available in 6 colors: black, navy blue, lime green, yellow, orange, and red.

The second case is the Belkin Neoprene Sleeve Case

The Belkin Neoprene Sleeve Case for Amazon Kindle 2 protects your Kindle from bumps and scratches, keeping your ebook reader looking new and working great. With a slim, good-looking design, this soft and durable neoprene case keeps your Kindle protected during your travels while minimizing additional bulk and weight for easy portability.

I’m not really sure which one I like. Both have fairly good reviews and seem to work well, but I am curious.  For those who do have Kindles, what kind of cover do you have?  I definitely want something that totally encases the Kindle, but which one is the way to go leaves me indecisive.  Does anyone have one of these two models?  What do you think?

  1. I managed to buy the m-edge in the wrong size, but I like it enough to get it in the right size. It has a very nice feel, good features, good padding, and comes in pretty colors.

  2. The Belkin one looks nice. I have the leather bound Amazon Kindle case, which I really like. There are no zippers of any kind. You can keep the Kindle in the case while you read. Not sure if the other cases are like that. I have yet to drop it, but it’s only a matter of time. LOL!

  3. I have the SimpleCase made by Grantwood Technology (sold through Amazon). I like the way it holds the Kindle in place on all four corners instead of only on two corners like some of the other cases. It’s much better than the awful metal hinge that holds the Kindle in place in the case made by Amazon. It also folds in half so you can fold the cover of the case backward and easily hold the whole thing in one hand to read with the Kindle still in the case.

  4. I had the Belkin case at first. I like the case a lot but you can’t read the Kindle while it is in the case. Mine wasn’t in the case when I dropped it. Nor did I have the warranty. My second Kindle has the warranty and the Amazon open case that I don’t have to remove when reading or charging. Being an open case does make me worry. I always transport using two hands. I really like the look of the M-Edge one and like that I can store the cables too. I’ll have to see about getting another case.

  5. Mmm….lot’s of good comments here.

@Anna: I do like the leather case, but I just don’t think it’s protecting my Kindle very well. At least not from all the traveling it does.

@Kindle Vixen: which Borsa Bella bag do you have? The idea of it looks nice since my Kindle is the largest item in my purse. Is it more like a purse and will hold other things or is it mainly just for the kindle?

@Jaime: I had looked at the platform jackets before and I can’t remember why I didn’t go with them, but this time, I think I need something that covers the entire Kindle. That’s why I’m looking at the sleeves.

@Doug: I also have a three year old at home who likes to step on my purse. That I realized tonight. :)

@Kristen: I liked the Simple Case, but it doesn’t look like it has good access for the cords or the power switch. Do you have to take it out of the case to charge it or to turn it on?

I’m not sold on either case yet, both have features I like (and maybe I’ll take another look at the Simple Case). The one thing I do like is the M-Edge’s handle that can also be tucked away. Although that does have the question of whether it makes it bulkier or not.

  6. Jackie – I don’t have a borsa bella yet, I just love the look of them! I think the Travel purses can hold other small things in the outside pocket with the kindle in the main pouch! Have you ever checked out kindleboards.com? lots of reviews and photos of stuff there that may help!

  7. adding, I did some googling and most people are buying the DX size of the borsa bella if you also want to carry more than a thin phone/debit/credit cards in it.

  8. I have a case by Casecrown that I love. The kindle is held in place on all 4 corners. The top 2 are clear plastic and the bottom 2 are elastic. The case is padded with memory foam for protection. The outside is a firm vinyl with zipper closures around 3 sides. I feel very secure with this case. Another thing I like about this case is the outside pouch on one side. I use it to store the charger and a book light when traveling. You could use it as a purse if all you needed was a credit card and a slim cell phone. The only thing it doesn’t have is a handle, so I feel more comfortable carrying it in a medium or large size purse. While the side pouch makes it a little more bulky than the 2 picks you listed I think it’s still worth a look.

  9. Hi Jackie,
The SimpleCase doesn’t have a special opening where the Kindle’s USB/charging port is, but that area of the case is flexible and I’ve been able to just push the fabric and plug the USB cable into the Kindle while it’s still in the case. The zipper is double-ended (meaning you can zip it in either direction from the top of the case or the bottom), so I just pull the two zippers down to that area and leave an opening between them where the cord is sticking out of the Kindle.
