As some of you know, I’ve been participating in the Weekly Geeks challenge for awhile now. This week, we were suppose to kick off the beginning of voting season for the Top 10 Books of 2008 as determined by us book bloggers. I knew what this weeks topic was going to be, so I was waiting to see Dewey put the post up. When the post finally did come, it was not what I was expecting.
Last week Tuesday, Dewey passed away after living with a lot of pain. I had just talked with Dewey the Sunday before and she never once let on that she wasn’t feeling well or anything. Ever since I first met her when Weekly Geeks first started, I never knew her to be anything but a book loving bookworm who wanted to build a community of book bloggers. Dewey did a lot to bring us all together and I know she will be missed.
I have no clue what will happen with the Read-a-thon, Weekly Geeks, or the Bookworm Carnival, but I can’t see that Dewey would want us to end these traditions she has started. I’ve already volunteered to maintain the Bookworm Carnival at Literary Escapism, but I’m hoping someone out there will want to continue Dewey’s work with either the Read-a-thon or Weekly Geeks.
I saw this earlier today and it feels odd. I’m still expecting the Weekly Geek post to go up and I don’t know if it ever will be posted at the Hidden Side of a Leaf again. The idea that nothing new will ever be up at HSL again still hasn’t set it. I’m still expecting something to pop up on my RSS feed.
Oh that’s sad. My condolences to you and the other weekly geeks.
I still can’t believe that Dewey’s gone. She did so much.
I’m volunteered to host the Bookworm Carnival too. Maybe we could collaborate. I’m set up a few beta pages here: http://thebluestockings.com/bookworms-carnival/
I am still in shock! However, in weekly geek news…Becky and some of us other weekly geeks are recruiting for this sat. we’re going to do a dewey tribute for the weekly geeks #27!
Here’s her post about it:
