I love Harper Collins…

…and so should you.  The wonderful people at Harper Collins must have me on more than one list because I was just sent another copy of Robin Hobb’s Dragon Keeper.  I’ve already tried giving one copy away on Facebook/Twitter, but I can’t get anyone to email me back, so I’m going to give away both copies here.  That’s right, I have two hardcover copies of this novel:

The Trader leadership fears that if it stops providing for the young dragons, the hungry and neglected creatures will rampage—or die along the river’s acidic muddy banks. To avert catastrophe, the dragons decree a move even farther up the treacherous river to Kelsingra, their ancient, mythical homeland whose mysterious location is locked deep within the dragons’ uncertain ancestral memories.

To ensure their safe passage, the Traders recruit a disparate group of young people to care for the damaged creatures and escort them to their new home. Among them is Thymara, an unschooled forest girl of sixteen, and Alise, a wealthy Trader’s wife trapped in a loveless marriage, who attaches herself to the expedition as a dragon expert. The two women share a deep kinship with the dragons: Thymara can instinctively communicate with them, and Alise, captivated by their beauty and majesty, has devoted her life to studying them.

Embarking on an arduous journey that holds no promise of return, the band of humans and dragons must make their way along the toxic and inhospitable Rain Wild River—an extraordinary odyssey that will teach them lessons about themselves and one another, as they experience hardships, betrayals, and joys beyond their wildest dreams.

So now on to the details.  The contest will run until February 13th.  I’ll draw two names on the 14th and the winners have until Monday night to contact me. In order to enter, all you have to do is tell me what your favorite fantasy novel is. Are you a huge Tolkien fan?  Do you love Drizzt? Can Weiss & Hickman do no wrong?

As always, there’s more ways of getting your name in the hat:

  • +1 for each place you post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, twit it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer.
  • +1 for any review you comment on, however, comments must be meaningful. Just give me the title of the review and I’ll be able to figure it out from there.
  • +1 for being a follower of Literary Escapism on Facebook and/or Twitter
  • +1 for being a subscriber to Literary Escapism (new subscribers welcome!)
  • +10 for purchasing any print novel through LE’s Amazon store sometime during this contest and send a copy of the receipt VIA email for your purchase to: myjaxon AT gmail DOT com. Each purchase is worth ten entries, but it has to be through the LE Amazon Link.

Remember, I’ve added a stipulation to my contests…the winner must post a review of Dragon Keeper someplace.  Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter.  Just help get the word out in as many places as you can.

The contest will stay open until February 13th, at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer and the List Randomizer.

Also, I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.  The sooner you contact me, the sooner the book will get sent out.

One last thing….

I have not heard from my And Falling Fly winner yet.  Lisa, if you want your copy, contact me.  If I don’t hear from you by the 13th, I’ll draw a new name.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I was offered this book having no clue what it was. I refused because I thought, being Hobb, it was probably way too far into a series already for me. Since it’s a first though, I’ll make a bid for it. :) And oh man, I’ll try my best to check back! Thanks.

  2. Fave fantasy novel? American Gods by Neil Gamain. Hands down one of the best books I’ve ever read. If you need a new winner for And Falling, Fly, I’d take it off your hands. ; )

I’ll keep an eye out for new reviewers for you, too.

  3. Well I entered before but never heard anything, so trying again. I follow you twitter, facebook fan and feed. My favorite fantasy novel – The Mists of Avalon by Marian Zimmer Bradley. And if I win, I’ll review on all my blogs. :)

I love the hobbit & LOTR trilogy but another of my favorite fantasy books has to be the Belgariad series by David Eddings. I really enjoyed that one when I read it a few years ago.

If I’m the winner I’ll review for my blog (I also always put my reviews on Amazon UK)

  6. Hey, I would like a chance to win the book. I can not believe no one wanted to get it on Facebook. You have takers here. ha ha susan L.

  7. Hey, no need to enter me in the giveaway, just wanted to say that I’m currently reading SHIP OF MAGIC by Hobb and it is INCREDIBLE. Hobb is an amazing writer! I’ll be picking up this one at some point, too, but I have a bunch of other books to read/review first (and the other two in the Liveship Traders series to finish).

  8. I would like to be entered for this book. I do not have a favorite fantasy book because I haven’t read anything in this genre yet. Well I recently read Alice in Wonderland for a RAL, but I didn’t like that book. I do enjoy Urban Fanatsy books, but I don’t think those apply to this question because of the book that you are giving away.

  9. Ooh, that’s tough. The Wheel of Time series ranks right up there, but that’s a lot more than one book. I think I’ll go with Fool’s Fate though, which is actually by Robin Hobb.

Awesome. I’d love to win this book. I’ll be sure and check back.

  10. Tell me what your favorite fantasy novel is:
That’s easy! I recently became very enamored with Brandon Sanderson through his Mistborn. It is currently–and will remain for awhile–my favorite in fantasy. :)

  11. I just got my internet connection back after some terrible weather here in VA. So I totally missed the Facebook post. I like Mercedes Lackey for fantasy, and of course Tolkien. I have read some of M.Z. Bradley’s books and enjoyed them as well. To say that one is a favorite would be hard to do. I think for favorite I have to go with Lewis Carroll’s Through a Looking Glass. It was one of the first fantasy books that I read.
    I’m a Facebook fan.

  12. I haven’t read much fantasy, but I do like Tolkien…like most people I’m sure. :)

  13. My new favorite fantasy is ‘Darkborn’ by Alison Sinclair, first in a trilogy (displaced Wheel of Time).

I follow on Twitter and via google. In case I win I’d like to get my boy to do a guest review!

  14. I can’t believe you can’t get anyone to email you back. Please enter me for the book. My favorite fantasy book is Urban Shaman by C.E. Murphy

  15. I just realized I didn’t tell you my favorite fantasy novel. Typical of me not to see that – but I would have to say A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. I could actually choose so many others, but when I get questions like this it feels more right o go back to a book that inspired my reading habits to be where they are today. Hope this got in under the wire, but if not, no biggie. ;)
