Teaser Tuesday: Shift

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Here’s the rules:

  1. Get the book you’re currently reading
  2. Open it to any random page
  3. Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page (Be courteous of your readers)
  4. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!

This week’s teaser involves Shift by Rachel Vincent, the fifth novel in her Shifters series.

From page 56-57:

A very soft, eerie whispering sound seemed to skitter across my spine, and I watched in fascination as his feathers receded into his skin and his arms began to shorten.

It happened in seconds.

Marc and I stood in silent shock.

From page 368:

Fury raged in me, hot, heavy and completely impotent. But there was nothing I could do without making it worse. I couldn’t Shift my teeth or my hands without him noticing. I needed an opening. Something to distract him long enough for me to make a move.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. Love the Shift quotes – loved the book!

    From Jim Butcher’s Blood Rites:

    Pg 110
“He kissed me on either cheek. I’m not a kissy-huggy type, really but I figured it was another manly European affection thing. Either that or he’d just marked me for death.”

    Pg 331
“It hurt. Oh god, it hurt. The fingers of my left hand were the first to feel it, and then my palm and wrist, all in the space of a second. If you’ve never been burned, you can’t imagine the pain.”
