I’ve already asked about which vampire & shapeshifter and demons, fae & magic novels everyone would recommend. This week, let’s take the same question, but this time, let’s focus on the younger crowds.
I’m not a huge young adult fan, but I’ve come across a couple of great young adult paranormals that I simply love. my list of recommendations is fairly small where this subgenre is concerned and I would love to increase it.
So I’m still on the hunt for those great novels I’ve read and have forgotten about or haven’t stumbled across yet. Here’s my short list of YA paranormal series I love. What am I forgetting about? Do I need to read a certain book, like now? What are your automatic buys?

Christopher Pike wrote a series called The Last Vampire that I really enjoyed as a teen. I believe they’ve recently been repackaged and re-released.

Have you read Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater? It is a brilliant start of a romantic trilogy about werewolves – really great stuff. I am also a big fan of Chloe Neill’s Dark Elite series – even though it has only one book out so far! Really worth the read!
Huge fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward as well as The Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian.

@Cari – Mortal Instruments is on my list to read, I just haven’t gotten to it yet. Is Hunger Games paranormal? For some reason, I didn’t get that feeling from the blurb.
@Kay – Shiver and Firespell all fall in the same category as Mortal Instruments – so many books, so little time. Both are on my list to read, but since I don’t have them yet, I haven’t had a chance to read them.
@Becky – I don’t know if I would recommend the BDB boys or the Midnight Breed series to a younger audience. When I think of young adult, I can’t see either of these being included.
@Lesley & Anna – I haven’t read any of those yet, but a few are on my list.
@DarkHeart – I have the Summoning, Once Dead, Twice Shy and My Soul to Save sitting on my shelf and I’m slowly working my way to them. I already love Armstrong, Harrison and Vincent’s adult series, so I have a feeling I’ll like their YA ones as well. I’m torn on trying Hush Hush, I’ve heard too many mixed reviews on it.
I loved Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater – one of my favorite books this year, a beautiful story! Definitely my top YA paranormal recommendation :o) I also really enjoyed Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
I loved Mortal Instruments. I read it right after Twilight and loved it. Hunger games is sci-fi but hard to explain without spoiling it.
I love and would read anything by Maggie Stiefvater, Richelle Mead, Melissa Marr, and Holly Black.
Anything by LJ Smith.
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan is a great YA book. She just released the 2nd The Dead Tossed Waves which is sitting on my TBR shelf waiting for me.

The Fabelhaven Series by Brandon Mull is really good. It’s probably a little under the YA age rating (recommended for ages 8-12), but it’s action packed and full of demons, magical creatures, and intrigue.
Maria V. Snyder also has a YA book coming out next week, Inside Out. Obviously I haven’t read it yet, but I loved all of her other books so I’m sure it will be worth reading.
Wings by Aprilynne Pike is by far the best and most original Fae Story I’ve ever read.
@Roseanne – You know, that’s one I’ve been seeing some things about, but it hasn’t made as much of a splash as some other new titles. If I’m not mistaken, WINGS also has a movie adaptation coming out soon too.
