Metro Girl by J. Evanovich (AudioBook)

I just finished listening to Metro Girl by Janet Evanovich. Well, I finished listening to seven of the eight discs. I’m having trouble getting through the last one. Thankfully I’ve already read the book so I know how it ends. I’m not sure why, but the Evanovich audio books are not pulling me in like the Hamilton one did. Maybe it’s the voice actress who’s reading them, but they are not as interesting as the paper copies. There’s not much inflection in the voices or any excitement at all. It all sounds very bland and I can do better in my own head than listen to someone else. There are times when I just want to skip a section because it’s dull, but I can’t do that with an audio book.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and I was thinking about getting the audio version of the sequel, Motor Mouth, but after this second attempt with an Evanovich book, I think I’m going to stick with the novels.

  1. I don’t know how you managed to struggle through any of Janet Evanovich’s early audiobooks that are not narrated by Lorelei King. She’s fabulous, IMHO, one of the best narraters I’ve heard, if not the best. It really sounds as if there are multiple people narrating. I tried listening to some of Janet Evanovich’s audiobooks by others, primarily Critt, and they were horrible. I think Janet would sell a lot more of her earlier novels in audio form if she had them re-narrated by King. Thankfully, from Seven Up and on, Lorelei King narrates. I choose to read the earlier books in the series.
