Lover Avenged by JR Ward

Just when you think J.R. Ward can’t get any better, she surprises you once again, especially with Lover Avenged.

Caldwell, NY, has long been the battleground for the battleground for the vampires and their enemies, the Lessening Society. It’s also where Rehvenge has staked out his turf as a drug lord and notorious nightclub that caters to the rich and heavily armed. His shadowy reputation is exactly why he’s approached to kill Wrath, the Blind King, and leader of the Brotherhood. Rehvenge has always kept his distance from the Brotherhood, even though his sister is married to a member. Because he’s a sympath, his identity is a deadly secret- the revelation of which will result in his banishment to a colony for sociopaths. And as plots within and outside the Brotherhood take their toll against Rehvenge, he turns to the only source of light in a darkening world- Elhena, a vampire untouched by the corruption that has its hold on him- and the only thing standing between him and eternal destruction.

There are so many story elements in Ward’s books but she juggles them perfectly. Even though my favorite thus far still Lover Revealed, I found Lover Avenged to be the best as far as her story telling goes.  Maybe it was because she packed so much in this book for more then just the hero and his mate but she included things for the other characters too.

While she does this in all of her books, Lover Avenged just stood out for me and surprised me more then the rest.  I have to admit I got teary eyed on many of the parts in this book, with everything coming together and the story progressing.  There were definitely a few great heart wrenching moments. There were also some awesome laugh out loud moments and a couple brought me to tears.

When reading the other books in this series, I got to where I would skim over the “lesser” parts because they just weren’t that interesting. In Lover Avenged I didn’t have to do that and it was so refreshing! I also have to mention that I really hated Rehvenge in any of the previous books where he was mentioned, I just couldn’t stand that he was even around. I am not sure why I had these feelings for the character but with Lover Avenged he has totally redeemed himself. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that we finally get to know some of his past and what he is really all about.

The feel of this book was absolutely amazing. Not only was there a main plot for Rehvenge but also side plots for John and Wrath as well. I think this is why I absolutely love this series, the Warden puts so much into her books that they never disappoint.

Lover Avenged seemed to be the most erotic of them all thus far.  Not to mention it seemed to have a lot more sex scenes the the rest, but considering all of the story involved I think it evened out.  I was surprised with some of the erotic scenes and am looking forward to Ward pushing the boundaries even further with her next few.

  1. Couldn’t agree more, I’m anxious to read Lover Mine due this month. I simply adore the way the author intertwines so many stories into a big one. The only part I don’t agree is with your favorite in the series lol but that’s another matter entirely.

  2. Butch all the way! :) My ONLY problem with this book was the tiny font! I could barely read it:) I love this series, and she’s definitely going somewhere the Lessers. Interested to see JM’s and Xhex’s story told.
