Continuing with The Eternal Kiss anthology, edited by Trisha Telep, I just finished the twelfth story, Ambition by Lili St. Crow.
First off, I haven’t read any of St. Crow’s Strange Angels novels, so I’m not sure if Ambition is set in the same world or not. If it’s not, this is another one that has a lot of potential as a series.
Ambition is the classic tale of the barely scrapping by girl, Jenn, who is best friends with the rich (I’m so not a snob but really is) girl, Gwyneth, who lives the golden life. This is a YA story, so it all takes place in high school and I’m sure we can all guess the big conflict the two girls end up having (hint: it happens at a party where there are a lot of the ‘popular’ kids). Afterwards, Jenn ends up meeting this new guy and he totally gives her a different outlook on life. Now, there’s no hint of anything paranormal until closer to the end of the story, but that’s a lot of its charm.
There was some really fabulous character development with Jenn and I would love to see how she handles the results of her actions at the end of the story. I have a feeling she’s going to go through more indecisions and the boy she ends up meeting will no doubt be involved in some way.
