Acheron by S. Kenyon

This is, by far, the best book I have read to date. I am sure stand alone, without reading the series in order, it would not have been so high on my list for favorite books, but since I have read the series in order, Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon was all the more special to me.

Eleven thousand years ago, a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. But the strongest steel is forged from the fires of hell?

Acheron’s human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Then, brought back against his will, he became the sole defender of mankind. Only it was never that simple. For centuries, Acheron has fought for our survival and hidden a past he’ll do anything to keep concealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence. Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers, and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both. War has never been more deadly…or more fun.

Ahh Acheron, who doesn’t love him? You get to read about his past, and even though you will be thoroughly disgusted and pissed off the entire time, you will find yourself not wanting to put it down in the hopes that finally something good will happen for him.

You will cry. And then you will cry some more. You will get hints of hope and then be crushed and feel like crying again until finally you want to scream and jump for joy and cry more.

I really didn’t picture Acheron paired up with anyone, in my mind no one could ever be good enough for a man such as this. However, I did love the choice Kenyon made in who Acheron was ultimately paired with. It  made such perfect sense considering her personality and love for older things.

Kenyon does a great job throughout her series for hiding pretty much everything about Acheron, and in Acheron you will learn it all.  This book will not disappoint!

  1. Great job reviewing this book without giving it away.

I agree. This is the current culmination of the series. All through-out the Dark-Hunter saga you learn to love Ash and then, you FALL in love with him. Just like you said—your heart breaks over and over again for him!

My friend couldn’t stand it and threatened to put it in her DNF pile… so she forced me to synopsis the first half so she could move on to brighter times. *shaking head* I just couldn’t let her leave Ash in the past with all that suffering. She had to read on to the end! LOL

My review is here. Both my husband and I listened to the audiobook while we were sick with swine flu. At least something good came out of that time!

  2. Thank you :)
This was one of the hardest (if not THE hardest) books for me to review.. I loved it so much yet there are so many elements that even if you touch base on will spoil it for others. I wanted to put so much into this because it still happens to be the best book I have yet read to date, but alas Ash was such a mystery for so long that I couldn’t do that :P

I decided short was better in this case as Kenyon has already proven herself a great writer with absolutely wonderful characters :)
