Escapist Newsletter (Vol. 2 Issue 3)

Check out the shiney cover for the new The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance Anthology that will be out later this year. There are a bunch of new releases this month and some of them are already out. I know I already have my hands on the new Vincent, Andrews & Chance novels. I have a couple of other books to read first (they’re due back at the library), but these are next on my list. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve added a bunch of new entries to the new releases page. I came across a list of books that I normally don’t read, but I still added them. Anyway, here are the new releases for April:

  • Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews (4/1) – already out
  • Small Favor by Jim Butcher (4/1)
  • Embrace the Night by Karen Chance (4/1) – already out
  • Rogue by Rachel Vincent (4/1) – already out
  • Lover Enshrined by JR Ward (4/1) – Update: Release date has been pushed back to 6/3
  • The Third Circle by Amanda Quick (4/22)
  • Shadow Magic by Cheyenne McCray (4/28)
  • The Harlequin by LK Hamilton (4/28) – paperback
  • One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost (4/29)
  • The Darkest Kiss by Keri Arthur (4/29)
  • Hungers of the Heart by Jenna Black (4/29)

I just found out that the fourth Monere book by Sunny will be out next January (2009) and will be called Mona Lisa Darkening. I haven’t seen anything else about the book, but once I do, it’ll get posted here.

Anya Bast will be signing books at The Bookstore in Radcliff, KY on March 29th from 2pm to 4pm. Another interview will be happening over at Jeaniene Frost’s blog. She hasn’t announced who she’s interviewing, but I’m going to assume it’s someone we’ll all know since she isn’t saying. I also found an interview with Maria Snyder, who writes the Study series, on Jenna Black’s blog. Maria Snyder is one of my new authors for this year that I absolutely love. Both of these authors I would highly recommend to anyone.

Keri Arthur has finished book 7 of the Riley Jensen series. It’s due out at the end of October, so that’s exciting to know it’s almost done. All that is left are the edits and rewrites. Who knows, it may come out early. Here’s an excerpt for The Darkest Kiss. Also, I’m not sure if everyone caught it or not, but the 16th Anita Blake book, Blood Noir, will be released a week early on May 28th. There was an excerpt added for Blood Noir. Yippee!! And speaking of Anita, Laurell has a HUGE jump on the next Anita book. She usually writes an Anita book and then a Merry book; and according to her, she rarely works on both at the same time. But the muse has hit her hard and she’s been putting out just as many Anita pages as Merry, so we may get an early release date on the next Anita book next year. One can hope.

The third Kate Daniels novel by Ilona Andrews, Midnight Games, already has an excerpt up. I haven’t seen a release date yet, but there’s a chapter to read at least. If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s an excerpt for Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich. It’s only the first part of Chapter One, but the second part will be up April 1st.

Thought I would show off the new cover for Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs. In Mercy news, Penguin Audio has purchased the rights to the Mercy Thompson & Omega/Alpha series and will be releasing audio versions later this summer.

New (to me) Yahoo! Groups:

  1. Jeaniene Frost has set up a Yahoo! Group that will serve as her newsletter. She’s asking that you only post questions for her because she is in the process of setting up a forum for book discussions that’s suppose to be really awesome.
  2. Something I just found, Laurell K. Hamilton has a Yahoo! Group as well. It look likes it’s still fairly new, but I’m sure it will have an influx of members joining soon. It’s mainly used to make announcements, so don’t go in expecting to post comments, because you won’t be able to.
  3. MaryJanice Davidson has one as well!

Karen Chance is starting a new series. Here’s a blurb about it:

Dorina Basarab is a dhampir, with a human mother and a vampire father. She’s also stark staring mad. It’s the result of a human body combined with the vampire killing instinct, and while she isn’t insane all the time, she does have frequent psychotic episodes. She doesn’t normally remember what took place during these, but the body count that she finds on waking usually gives her a clue.

The title of the first book in this series will be called Midnight’s Daughter. There is an excerpt up for it in Chance’s newsletter.

Check out the cover for the first novel in the Silver Dragon series by Katie MacAlister. Not only is there a cover for the first one, but the second novel, Up in Smoke, has been announced and it will be out in October of this year. I haven’t seen any news on a new Aisling novel, so I’m guessing Katie has been spending time writing up this new series. I can’t wait to read Playing with Fire, but I’m still waiting to see what goes on between Aisling and Drake. Afterall, they did FINALLY get married in Holy Smokes (sorry if that was a spoiler).

In tour news, I’ll be attending the Kim Harrison signing in Dayton, Ohio in April. So if anyone is around, I’ll be the one with the13 month old flirt. More good tour news….Sherrilyn Kenyon is coming to Michigan. She is planning a visit to Ann Arbor, but there isn’t an exact date or locaiton as of yet. I will be keeping a close eye on this since it’s close for me. I know my cousin will be just as excited about this as I will be.

Something shiney and new is MaryJanice Davidson’s website. She has done a complete overhaul on her site and it looks really good. It ran a little slow for me, but they are still working on it, so it’ll get faster.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. There are a few new books on your list I am really looking forward to. I have to wait a little longer in the UK sadly, but still. Thanks for the reminder!
