As part of the numbers challenge, I decided to try Ronda Thompson’s The Dark One. I had never heard of her before, but when it was announced she had died of pancreatic cancer, people started talking about her books. From what everyone was saying, I became intrigued. The Dark One starts the series, the Wild Wulfs of London, and involves a family of men who are cursed. We don’t find out what the curse is until the end of the book, but everything leading up to it is interesting.
I’m not really sure if I would label this novel “paranormal”. The only paranormal element is about 2 pages long and everything else alludes to it. Nothing is really done with it or while the paranormal state is going on. The book was definitely good and it was a change from what I have been reading, but it’s definitely more romance than anything.
Overall, the story was good. The characters were engaging and they made you want to continue reading. I’ve been in a reading slump for the past couple of weeks, but I never felt like I wanted to put the book down. I started this book last night and I finished it within a day. I probably won’t go out and buy these books, but I will be checking out the rest of the series from my library.

A side note….there are four brothers mentioned in The Dark One, but with Ms. Thompson passing away, I don’t know if we’ll ever hear the story of the fourth brother. I’m hoping this isn’t the case though.
