Upcoming Movies

I was browsing through Rotten Tomatoes, while I was waiting for Stargate U and Merlin to end (I swear, he has got to be deaf), and came across a few movies I haven’t seen much on yet.  So I thought I would share.

Jonah Hex
Coming to Theaters June 18, 2010
Starring: Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, Will Arnett, John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender, Michael Shannon

The U.S. military makes a scarred bounty hunter with warrants on his own head an offer he cannot refuse: in exchange for his freedom, he must stop a terrorist who is ready to unleash Hell on Earth.

What do you think?  The poster was what really caught my eye – seems kind of steampunkish.  I’m not sure what the fantastical/horror elements are, but I get the feeling there is going to be some.  I wish I could find more on it.  Has anyone seen info on Jonah Hex?

The Wild Hunt
Coming to Theaters: May 28, 2010
Starring: Trevor Hayes, Kyle Gatehouse, Mark Krupa

The Wild Hunt tells the story of Erik Magnusson, a young man who decides to follow his estranged girlfriend Evelyn into a medieval re-enactment game when he discovers that she has been seduced by one of the players.

As the down-to-earth Erik treks deeper into the game in search of his love, he inadvertently disrupts the delicate balance of the make believe fantasy-land.

Passions are unleashed. Rules are broken. Reality and fantasy collide. The good-hearted game turns into a tragedy of mythic proportion…

Capturing the culture of costume play and the potentially dangerous intersection of real and made-up worlds, The Wild Hunt is a timely and potent comment on the consuming nature of adopting another identity, even within a game, and the modern yearning for ritual.

What do you think?  You know, with all the paranormal literature out there, you would think the Wild Hunt would be more prevalent, but it’s really not.  However, I’m starting to see more and more of it in various formats and the fact that this one seems to tie it in with a role-playing games is intriguing.  I bet I could get the hubby to watch this one.

Survival of the Dead
Coming to Theaters: May 28, 2010
Starring: Kathleen Munroe, Alan Van Sprang, Julian Richings, Athena Karkanis

Like its predecessors, GEORGE A. ROMERO’S SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD takes place in a desperate, nightmarish world where the dead walk the earth, relentlessly attacking the living. It is the story of Plum Island – a beautiful refuge whose isolation allows two powerful families to maintain a semblance of order in the wake of the zombie holocaust. But as the inhabitants slowly die off, the two clans become sharply divided: the O’Flynns believe that the undead must be destroyed without exception, while the Muldoons insist that afflicted loved ones be kept “alive” until a cure is found. The result is an escalating showdown with echoes of a classic Western stand-off that erupts in brutality and violence

What do you think?  I just can’t get away from zombies, can I?  (oh look, Jesse has turned the TV off and is now playing Left for Dead 2).

I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I’ve seen trailers for both Jonah Hex and Survival of the Dead.

I’m hoping Jonah Hex doesn’t suck. It’s a comic book movie (or graphic novel, not sure which right now), so in my opinion it could go either way and it’s definitely weird western. We’ll see.

Survival of the Dead is on VideoOnDemand right now and I really wanna order it. I’m pretty sure it won’t be playing in theaters around me and it costs about as much as a movie ticket. Looks fun.
