About Jackie

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

Blue Moon and Obsidian Butterfly has one thing in common – self discovery and individual discovery. Well, I guess that’s two things, but it’s the same idea. In Blue Moon, Anita is called in to Tennessee to help bail Richard out of some problems he has encountered. While in Tennessee, […]

Burnt Offerings by LK Hamilton

11 May 2006 Jackie 0

I like to think of Burnt Offerings as the turning point in the Anita Blake series due to the introduction of the vampire Asher and the wereleopards, most especially Nathaniel. We’ve been slowly introduced to Asher in a couple of the previous novels and now we get to meet the […]

the Killing Dance by LK Hamilton

10 May 2006 Jackie 0

The Killing Dance gives us the climax of the relationship between Anita, Richard, and Jean-Claude and it ends pretty much like we’ve been lead to believe. But of course, you’ve already figured that out if you’ve been reading the books. The struggle between Richard and his rival, Marcus, for the […]

Everyone knows or has heard of the various legends and myths surrounding vampires and lycanthropes; libraries are filled with varying tales and characteristics of these creatures. However, there are few stories surrounding necromancers. In the second novel, The Laughing Corpse, Hamilton brings Blake’s talent to the forefront and includes us […]

Guilty Pleasures by LK Hamilton

7 May 2006 Jackie 1

Guilty Pleasures is the first book in L.K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. Anita Blake is a animator and a vampire hunter. She doesn’t follow the new ideology that vampires are people too; they’re still monsters to her. She’s a court sanctioned executioner and she has a cynical view […]

Definitely Dead by C. Harris

4 May 2006 Jackie 0

I just picked up Charlaine Harris’ lasted Sookie Stackhouse novel and I wanted to give my review while it was still fresh in my head. For Ms. Harris’ sixth installment in the life of Sookie Stackhouse, Definitely Dead answers some questions that many of us have and some we didn’t […]

Tall, Dark and Hungry by L. Sands

3 April 2006 Jackie 0

It’s amazing what Tall Dark and Handsome does to any story. Sands’ gives a semi-new twist to the idea of a vampire. Of course, this is in romance setting, so we see more of the complexity of living as a vampire and trying to have a relationship at the same […]
