I am a performer by trade and have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. My bookshelves are full of many genres but I have a love of fantasy, SciFi and steampunk which have only spurred my performing dreams to help one of these fabulous worlds come to life. I tend to read books with a lot of edge and grit; if it's got zombies, space battles or fantastical steam inventions, I'm in. When I'm not reading or off making my own adventures, I can be caught watching movies of every era, gaming, and being scandalously political like any good steampunk heroine.

Welcome to the potential epicness that is Queue the Quipster. Is there a steampunk novel you find gossip worthy or a science fiction fave that needs to be pulled from its throwback throne and be read now? Is there a post apocalyptic wasteland you won’t dare venture to again? This feature […]
I have always been one to look for the hidden gems in reading; the science fiction book by an unknown author or the steampunk book that is from an indie publisher. Though my library is quite extensive, I continue to see countless books that I want to read and don’t […]
Jay Kristoff brings steampunk to feudal Japan in a way that is truly groundbreaking with Stormdancer. Even though the story’s locale is different, it’s not Victorian London or Civil War era US, it is Kristoff’s understanding of steampunk that takes this book from an interesting read to a stellar gamechanger. […]
Magnus Flyte’s City of Dark Magic transported me to another place, if not another world. Prague, the featured city, sets a beautiful backdrop for a tale of Beethoven, espionage and nobility. Though the book tells of a fantasy unlike the one I imagined at first glance, I was soon transfixed […]
As a big fan of the post-apocalypse genre and the first novel in Justin Cronin’s epic trilogy of a post-apocalyptic United States., I was reserved in my eagerness for The Twelve. What I found was a book which only expands upon the magnificent wasteland Cronin has created; full of adventure and […]
The Clockwork Century Series by Cherie Priest is one of my absolute favorite steampunk series, so it was no surprise that I rushed out to the bookstore to pick up the fifth book, The Inexplicables. Cherie Priest does not disappoint and returns to her incredible alternate world, starting with a […]
I was pretty stoked when Jackie asked each of us to share our recommendations. I realized quickly when I joined the LE crew that I have a different taste in books from the other gals. For instance, zombies and a post apocalyptic wasteland are much more my idea of a […]
When Jackie first started Literary Escapism, she wrote up a list of recommendations based on what she had read up to that point and then updated it two years later. Recently, while she was updating the About LE page, she realized it had been another two years. LE has grown […]
Though young adult romance is not usually my style, The Mephisto Covenant is an innovative book that is everything the Twilight series should have been. Trinity Faegan has pulled me into a world where sons of hell are warriors on an eternal quest that makes me eager to read the next installment. […]
The Rise of Ransom City by Felix Gilman is a book unlike many others. The world created is a steampunk mecca of cleverness and cunning. More importantly, The Rise of Ransom City is a frontier story on the ambition of one man. Judge as you may but this ambition is […]
