If nothing else, The Vision, the second novel in CL Talmadge’s Green Stone of Healing series, was an interesting story. That being said, there really wasn’t anything that I liked about it.
I would post the blurb to the story – except it basically outlines the entire story, even giving away things that I thought were supposed to be a surprising twist. Basically, Helen Andros is a doctor who is looked down upon by nearly everyone because of her half-breed heritage. Despite that, she is called upon to treat a hostage at one of the capitals. The domino effect of that one action changed Helen’s life forever.
Like I said before, The Vision was interesting but I couldn’t get into for several reasons. Talmadge had the tendency to introduce a bunch of characters at once, yet not really explaining who each character was for several chapters. She would also change the point of view intermittently in the same scene which often left me confused and disoriented with what was going on.
The plot was very soap opera-y with a magical twist. Which was why I described it as interesting, but even though there was so much drama there wasn’t enough action to balance it out. The battles between the warring lords was more like a battle of words than any straight up violence.
Helen was a smart and courageous woman. When I saw her through other characters’ eyes, she would appear aloof and distant, though through her own eyes, she was vulnerable. The constant changing was both annoying and kept me from really connecting with her.
Overall, The Vision was just one of those books that didn’t make me want to rush out and buy the second book in the series.
