Diablo Lake: Moonstruck by Lauren Dane

It’s no secret that I adore anything Lauren Dane writes and Diablo Lake: Moonstruck was no exception.  As soon as I saw it on NetGalley (and that it is a first in a new series!), I simply had to have it. I also may have tagged a certain Carina editor begging to be approved *wink*. I do have to give a big thanks to Carina Press for the opportunity to read Diablo Lake: Moonstruck.

Diablo Lake: Moonstruck by Lauren Dane coverKatie Grady left Diablo Lake to get over a humiliating breakup; but her family needs her help, so she’s back, in a sublet right across the hall from the guy she’s lusted after for years. Jace Dooley is hotter than ever, and their friendship picks up along with massive doses of grown-up chemistry.

The very scent of Katie sharpens Jace’s canines, makes the wolf within him stir. There’s nothing more alluring to a Pack Alpha than a sexy female who is so very in charge. She won’t be coddled, but if he plays his hand just right she might be convinced to become his.

Katie presents a challenge to Jace’s wolf nature, whose chief instinct is to protect. Especially now that she’s coming into the magic that is her birthright – and suddenly Jace isn’t the only one who’s interested in Katie, or the raw power she’s just learning to use.

Reading Diablo Lake: Moonstruck was an awesome early birthday present.  You may have noticed I have not done a lot of reviews lately and that’s because my RL schedule is super hectic and I’m battling some health issues. So you know Diablo Lake: Moonstruck is super special if I not only read it, but am also posting a review *wink*.

The only real negative I have to say about Diablo Lake: Moonstruck is that it did start out just a tad slow.  There were a couple times I had to make sure that I was clear on what was happening. Our heroine starts out going by two different names, which initially confused me until I got a better grasp on her story. Then it made sense.  This could’ve just been a me thing. It was a Friday night of a loooooong week and I had been battling fatigue issues, but I wanted so so much to get some reading in. I’m glad I pushed through because I ended up not being able to put Diablo Lake: Moonstruck down!

Once the storyline became clear, the pacing I’ve come to expect from  Dane, along with her–what I consider to be anyway–signature tropes of strong family ties, super hot heroes, and tension for the hero/heroine fell right on into place.  Dane simply knocked this out of the park. I mentioned I could not put Diablo Lake: Moonstruck down once the action picked up. I’m salivating to get my hands on Diablo Lake: Protected because I need more. I need to see the showdown that you know is coming. I need to see how things shake out for the Pembrys. But, most of all, I am really looking forward to finding out just how powerful Katie Faith is and what she can do and what her role ends up being in the end.

Simply put, Diablo Lake: Moonstruck is another hit from Lauren Dane. She brings heat, action and strong family ties–all things that make any Dane novel superb and a must-read. If you’ve never read anything from Dane before, Diablo Lake: Moonstruck is a good one to start with. If you have read Dane before and are a fan, you will not be disappointed.
