At the Beach with a Destructive Delta by Charlie Cochet

Charlie CochetAs one of the #CMCon16 featured bloggers, I get to have a little fun with a few of the fabulous authors who will be hitting the beach for Coastal Magic 2016 by showcasing their many stories. Last year I interviewed four of the the CMC15 authors, but this year I’m changing it up. I came up with this really fun idea to have the authors introduce us to their worlds by sending their characters to the beach.

Quite a few of the authors took me up on it and today Charlie Cochet is taking us to the beach with Dex, the main hero from her THIRDS series. The fifth book, Against the Grain, comes out on August 3rd; so if a Destructive Delta gets your interest, make sure you check out the first book, Hell & High Water.

At the Beach with a Destructive Delta

CCochet-Hell High Water“Now this is what I’m talking about.”

After months of getting shot at, chased, clawed at, kidnapped, and nearly blown up—and that was on a good day—they were finally rewarded with a mini vacation. The vote had been unanimous. Thanks to Austen who’d called in a favor, the team had been whisked away to a private beach somewhere on the East Coast. Dex didn’t really care where they were. Three days away from civilization, New York City traffic, news reporters, training, cases, asshat perps, and everything else that contributed to his steady rise in blood pressure these days. Nothing but fun in the tropical sun with his Destructive Delta family.

Dex planted his hands on his hips and surveyed the perimeter. In the water, Letty was on Rosa’s shoulders as she squared off against Cael who was up on Ash’s shoulders. His baby brother was going down. Rosa fought dirty. Just as the thought crossed Dex’s mind, Rosa launched a tickle assault on Cael and he hit the water quicker than a packet of gummy bears meeting their demise via Dex. The girls celebrated with victory “whoops” while Cael resurfaced. He wiped the excess water from his face and smiled sweetly. Uh-oh. Dex had been the victim of that look many a time.

With a wink at Ash, their gruff teammate disappeared under the surface. Before the girls knew what Ash was up to, he popped up under Letty, lifting her on his broad shoulders with Rosa hanging onto poor Letty’s head for deal life. This was going to be awesome.

Rosa flailed and lost her balance, falling back and taking Letty with her. The two hit the waves with a splash. Dex laughed. He hoped Ash was prepared. No one got the drop on Rosa and Letty without a fierce retaliation. Dex took a deep breath of the fresh unpolluted air.

Sun? Check.

White sandy beach? Check.

Palm trees? Check.

Ocean? Check.

Smoking-hot sexy jaguar Therian boyfriend rubbing his drool-worthy six-pack with suntan lotion? Mmm, check.

Dex took a moment to admire all those glistening, sculpted muscles tanning in the bright sun. His boyfriend lounged on a beach chair, his strong legs crossed at the ankles. His pitch black swim trunks matched his hair. It was almost time for Sloane to get his hair cut before Maddock took a pair of scissors to it. Again. Sloane was still having nightmares of their sergeant chopping off his precious locks. The tiny silver strands in Sloane’s trim beard sent a shiver through Dex. It was time to pounce on his sinfully sexy partner.

Dex pulled his own lotion from his open backpack and made his way over to Sloane. He stopped beside the lounge chair and tossed the bottle down at him.

“Oh, cabana boy,” Dex purred as he lowered his sunglasses to peer down at Sloane. “I need someone to smear me up good.”

Sloane’s amber eyes filled with heat and he spread his legs to straddle the beach chair. He patted the space in front of him. His voice was deep and gravelly when he spoke. “Please, sir. Allow me to be of service.”

With a naughty grin, Dex took a seat in front of Sloane, a low moan escaping him when Sloane slipped his arms around Dex’s torso. He kissed the side of Dex’s neck before helping him out of his T-shirt. After a nip to his ear, Sloane ran his hands over Dex’s chest.

“Where would you like me to start?”

Dex bent forward and propped himself on his elbows. “Make sure your big strong hands don’t miss anything. I want you to rub it in good.” Dex hummed at Sloane’s hands on him when a familiar voice almost scared him out of his swim trunks.

“I think I saw this one.”

Dex gave such a start he bolted upright. Unaware of Sloane’s proximity, he accidentally smacked his head back against his boyfriend’s nose.

“Ow! Son of a—”

“I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” Dex quickly turned so he could face Sloane who held onto his nose, his eyes watery.

“I’m fine,” Sloane grumbled. He narrowed his eyes at Calvin who lay serenely on the beach towel two feet away from them, a movie magazine in his hands. Hobbs lay beside his best friend looking equally unimpressed.

Seriously? There was a huge expanse of beach to either side of them and this was where his teammates decided to hangout? “What the hell are you two doing here?”

Calvin arched a brow at Dex. “We’ve been here the whole time. Your boyfriend’s ass is on my beach chair.” He shook his head before turning his attention back to his magazine. “Must have slipped his mind when you started your pool boy porno. You really need to update your roleplaying. Pool boys are so last year.”

Dex gave him a haughty sniff. “For your information, I said cabana boy, not pool boy. There’s a difference.”

Hobbs shook his head in shame at him.

“Don’t give me that look.” Dex swiped up his lotion and handed it to Sloane. Damn. Looked like he’d have to receive the G-rated version. “You couldn’t warn me?” Dex asked Sloane, receiving a sheepish grin from his boyfriend as he poured lotion onto his hands.

“Sorry, I forgot they were there.”

“Still here,” Calvin pointed out. He closed his magazine and sighed. “You know, you have a perfectly good hotel room for that sort of thing.”

Dex leaned toward Calvin with a wicked grin. “Maybe we should find ourselves a surveillance van instead.”

Calvin’s blue eyes widened and his already flushed skin grew redder. He shot to his feet and glared down at Dex. “You’re a dick.” With a grumble under his breath, he stormed off toward the water with Hobbs taking off after him.

Dex turned back to Sloane and wriggled his eyebrows. “So where were we?”

“That was devious,” Sloane said with a laugh. He pulled Dex in close and kissed him. “I approve.”

Dex wrapped his arms around Sloane’s neck before delivering kisses up his jaw. “What else do you approve of, Agent Brodie?”

“Why don’t I show you, Agent Daley.”

As Dex returned Sloane’s hungry kiss, he couldn’t help his smile. He had his friends, family, and the love of his life in his arms.

Best day at the beach ever.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
