At the #CMCon18 Beach with Daeglan and Sionnach by Tawdra Kandle

As one of the #CMCon18 featured bloggers, I get to have a little fun with a few of the fabulous authors who will be hitting the beach for Coastal Magic 2018 by showcasing their many stories. We had so much fun with last year’s At the Beach feature, that we’re doing it again.

Today Tawdra Kandle is taking us to the beach with Daeglan and Sionnach from The Save Tomorrow series. The fifteenth book, Age of Aquarius, is already out; so if At the Beach with Daeglan and Sionnach gets your interest, make sure you check out the whole series, The Save Tomorrow Collection Box Set is only $.99!

At the #CMCon18 Beach with Daeglan and Sionnach

“This beach business better be worth the eight hours on that airplane.” I rolled my shoulders and shot Daeglan a meaningful glare. “I’ve never heard of kitsune hanging out on beaches. I’m still not convinced that foxes and sand mix well.”

“I guess we’re about to find out, aren’t we?” My boyfriend—which, by the way, was an utterly inadequate word for who he was and what he meant to me—slung an arm around my shoulders. “We’re a long way from home, that’s for sure. But we needed this break, after . . . everything.” He squinted as we climbed the steps to the long wooden walkway that led to the beach itself.

When we reached the top, my breath caught, and all at once I understood the draw of this place.

Endless blue water stretched out as far as I could see. White foam-tipped waves pounded onto the pale golden sand, the roar of their motion filling my ears. The entire scene was magnificent, making me feel so small and yet so much a part of this incredible cosmos . . . I swallowed hard and groped for Daeglan’s hand.

“Yeah, it’s something, isn’t it?” His voice was gruff, but after nearly eight months together, I could recognize the hidden emotion there. “I know the human brain isn’t hard-wired to understand eternity or infinity, but this may be damned close to a perfect visual for both.”

I nodded, but I found it was still hard to speak. I let Daeglan pull me down the planks and onto the warm sand, where we kicked off our shoes.

“I can’t believe all of this is just for us.” Suddenly, the week we had here didn’t seem like enough. Part of me longed for the freedom to stay forever.

Daeglan chuckled. “This is the advantage of working—at least part-time, anyway—for the Carruthers family. When we decide we want to visit and take a bit of a holiday, they provide a private beach.”

“The fact that your brother is sleeping with the boss doesn’t hurt, either.” I tossed the words over my shoulder as I dipped my feet into the rushing water creeping toward me. “Oh, Daeglan, it’s so warm. Come feel.”

He appeared to be a little skeptical, but he joined me anyway, smiling when the ocean flowed over our feet. “It is, indeed. Much warmer than the same damned sea would be at home, I can tell you that.”

“Hmmmm.” I turned to face the water, leaning my back against his sturdy chest. Daeglan’s arms wrapped around my middle, snugging me close to him. I could feel the warmth of his breath fan across my cheek, and the sensation was possibly the most perfect I’d ever experienced.

“Seeing this . . . I know it was all worth it.” I spoke over the lump rising in my throat. “Saving the world, that is. Sometimes I look around at people, at the mess and the confusion and the anger and the pain . . . and I think, why did we bother? Why did we risk our lives and lose those we loved and travel in time and fight the Hive if the result was just more of the same lunacy? But then I look out here, at all the wild beauty, and I feel you near me and know what we share is just as enormous as this sea, and I know deep in my soul that it was worth all the trouble, and that I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”

Daeglan brushed a kiss onto the side of my face. “Why Sionnach, mo mhuirnín, listen to you. You’re a poet after all.”

I smiled, resting my head back against him. “It must be the Irish in me coming out.”

“Could be.” His hands moved lower to span over my flat stomach, his touch igniting a fire in me as it always did. “Speaking of beauty and life and poetry, I might have asked my brother about just how private this beach is. And Seamus might have told me that no one is allowed near it for miles on either side . . . and even the coastline is monitored. This is the most exclusive of hidden spots.”

I feigned ignorance of where he was leading. “Mmmmm . . . and your point is?”

“My point is . . . there is nothing in the world stopping us from doing whatever we want, right here, right now.”

Turning in his arms, I linked my hands behind his neck, tugging his lips close to mine. “Then what are we waiting for? After all, we did save this world. It would seem a pity not to enjoy it, wouldn’t it?”

“Absolutely.” Daeglan’s mouth took mine, drawing me deep into him. Surrounded as we were by the sun, the sand and the surf, time itself seemed to stop for us, allowing us the gift of this moment. The man whose hands took possession of my body was magical, able to be invisible at will, and I . . . well, I could be anyone I wanted, shift into any form. Yet together, now, we existed only for each other, and for the love that joined us.

And the world we’d saved from utter destruction turned around us, the timeless ebb and flow of the tide a monument to beauty, sacrifice and love that endured forever.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
