The Sweet Scent of Blood by S. McLeod

Sweet Scent of Blood by S. McLeodThe Sweet Scent of Blood is a fast paced, action packed, thrilling ride, and I absolutely loved it!! Suzanne McLeod has begun an outstanding new series with this first book and I can’t wait to read more.

Genevieve Taylor is a sidhe – one of the noble fae – and she’s unusual even in a London where celebrity vampires, eccentric goblins and scheming lesser fae mix freely with humanity…

Genny is a rising star at Spellcrackers.com, where she finds the “M” in magic – which can mean anything from mischief to malice to murder. The spellcrackers are run by the Witch Council, whose ancient tenets prohibit any contact with vampires. And that’s just fine with Genny, who wants as little to do with the bloodsuckers as possible.

But when a sinfully sexy vamp is accused of killing his lover, an old debt forces Genny to help prove his innocence, risking her job, her safety – and the exposure of her own dark secrets. Genny soon realizes that she and her client are both unwitting pawns in a centuries-old power struggle. And it’s not just her own neck at stake but the lives of all of London’s supernatural beings.

I have to admit, that the plot was so fast paced that I sort of got lost with all of the characters and goings on.  However, that didn’t take away from the book, it was still just as wonderful even if I was a little confused from time to time.

The plot kicks off with Genny at a restaurant (of someone she knows) when a vampire shows up to offer her a job, to which she turns down, until finding out its from someone whom she owes a favor. Here it starts in with Genny trying to find some clues about the spell that was used to kill a vamps lover. All hell breaks loose as more vamps get involved and wants Genny to find the same thing…a spell. She starts putting pieces together and doing her own sort of investigating and ends up in a world of trouble.

The character building in The Sweet Scent of Blood was outstanding. I had never read anything remotely similar as to what Genny can do, and it was super cool. Being the first in a series, I think I got lost from time to time with character names and details because there was a lot to take in. Even so, I fell in love with Genny from the get go and couldn’t stop turning the pages to find out more.

As I said before, the plot is super fast paced and it was action packed! The Sweet Scent of Blood has it all, there are some romantic elements involved (though slightly), kick ass vampires, a kick ass heroine (with some awesome secrets of her own) and a twist that will make you want to stand up and cheer, then run out to the store to pick up the next book!

Overall, I loved loved LOVED The Sweet Scent of Blood by Suzanne McLeod. She’s yet another author that is getting added to my ever growing A-List!  Seriously, what a fabulous new series!  If you are a fan of Urban Fantasy, then you MUST pick up this book… NOW!
