I Need a Title, Yes?

I haven’t checked my reader yet, but here is what I’ve been saving all week for you. There’ll be more (I’m sure a ton more) on Monday.

Check out the hot man on Lauren Dane’s Insatiable. This will be the first Phantom Corps novel and will be available July 2010, which is so not soon enough.  Correction: This is the first novel in a mini-series taking place in the Federation world.

Robin Hood and Vampires?!  Seriously?  The Horror Yearbook has news of a new movie called Sherwood Horror and they say it could be a good movie, but we’ll have to see. Other than The Horror Yearbook, I can’t find any more information, so if anyone has any…

In the latest of free reads, Fifty-Two Stories has posted their latest short story which is The Enchanted Bluff by Willa Cather.

UK E!Online has launched Vampire Wars.  They’ve noticed the similarities between Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Vampire Diaries and True Blood (and honestly, who hasn’t?) and they want to know which show is better.  Over the course of the week, they are putting up 5 different polls (the first one is Best Heroine) and the show that takes the most polls will win.  Want to speak you’re mind?  Go vote now!

Interviews:

Jeri Smith-Ready has posted the cover for her upcoming YA novel, Shade, which releases May 18, 2010.

Check out what I just found at SciFiGuy…it’s the cover for Talia Gryphon’s Key to Justice, which is the fourth book in the Gillian Key, ParaDoc urban fantasy series.  I’m not familiar with this series, but it has a female with a machine gun on the front.  It has my attention.

When Aura’s boyfriend dies a most untimely death, she is forced to reconsider her relationship with the living and the dead alike, in Jeri’s teen fiction debut (ages 14 and up). For more on the characters and story, check out the official Shade news page.

Ever wondered what the top 5 spaceship junkers were?  The SciFi Squad did and they came up with their Top 5 Hunk of Junk Spaceships and Serenity made the list at #3.  The lucky ship that took the top honors…the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars.

Speaking of lists, I have to say that I agree with MenWithPez’s Science Fiction’s 10 Best Second In Commands.  Out of the entire list, there are only two that made the list that I wasn’t familiar with.  Plus, the top 3 slots – Zoe (Serenity), Spock (Star Trek) and Darth Vader (Star Wars) – are so perfect.  Although I’m more of a Star Wars fan and would have liked to seen him as #2 instead, but I can’t really argue with Spock either.

According to SciFiWire, The Vampire Diaries has been approved for a second season.  Does that really surprise anyone?

Galaxy Express is reporting that Samhain is calling for submissions for a Steampunk Anthology.  Samhain is accepting submissions until April3 30, 2010 and each story accepted will be released as an ebook in November.

The 24hr Readathon is scheduled for this weekend if anyone is interested.  I wish I could play, but yet again I’m gone the day it’s head.  ;)

Dark Faerie Tales has news on a new zombie series that will be coming out next year. Seanan Guire, writing as Mira Grant, has a new trilogy called the Newsflesh Trilogy, which is being published by Orbit.  The first novel, Feed, will be released in May 2010. For more info on this new series, go check out what Dark Faerie Tales has.  Feed will be followed by Blackout in May 2011 and Deadline in May 2012.

SciFiGuy also had the cover for the second Calliope Reaper-Jones novel by Amber Benson.  Cat’s Claw is due out February 23, 2010.  Doug also found the cover for  Rae Lori’s Within the Shadows of Mortals, the second novel in her Ashen Twilight series, which releases February 2010.

Publishers Weekly had some good news for those wanting to purchase Kindle copies.  Amazon will begin offering a Kindle application for the PC.  So for anyone who wants to buy an ebook (in the Kindle format) and read it on their computer, now you can.  Although, why anyone would do that is kind of beyond me. I mean, I’m not a fan of reading on my laptop, which is why I really didn’t get into ebooks until I purchased my Kindle.  So what’s the difference between being able to buy Kindle copies and get ebooks (in a PDF format) from other locations?

Chloe Neill has posted the first chapter to her upcoming YA novel, Firespell.  Chloe has also posted the UK cover for Some Girls Bite.

>Tez Says has the cover for Cheyenne McCray’s second Night Tracker novel, No Werewolves Allowed.  There’s still on word on when it’s due out though.

New Author Challenge Update:
We’re down to two months left of this year’s New Author Challenge and I thought I would update everyone on a few things.

  1. You do not need to add a “wrap-up” post to Mr. Linky over at the challenge page.  In fact, I would like it if you wouldn’t.  The reason for this is I have put together a NAC Archive page, which will be for reviews only.  Each year’s reviews will be added to this archive as a resource for readers to find new authors they are unfamiliar with and a direct link to someone who has also tried them for the first time.
  2. As of today, we have 1043 reviews of new authors people have tried.  Alright people!  That is so exciting and I’m sure that number will continue to grow (especially since I know I need to add all of mine yet).

Contests:
Suburban Vampire is giving away three sets of the brand-new handbooks Vampires by Joules Taylor and Werewolves by Jon Izzard. Contest ends Oct 31st.

It’s Dark in the Dark is giving away five sets of books being offered by the Hachette Book Group.  Contest ends November 1st.

Nicole Peeler is celebrating the upcoming release of Tempest Rising by giving away a couple of Amazon gift certificates.  Contest ends November 8th.

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I have no plans to buy a kindle but will occasionally read a novella or short in pdf format on my laptop. So the instant-gratification factor of Amazon carrying an e-format that I might be interested is good. I’m not sure if authors who have Kindle “books” available at Amazon are allowed to sell the same book in another e-format elsewhere? I don’t like the monopolistic aspect of Amazon-Kindle. /Luddite

  2. Nicola – Kindle is like Sony – who also only sells their format at their website as well. Neither format is exclusive for most authors I know. My books are usually available in all digital formats (and believe me, I wish there was only one like “epub” so readers didn’t have to worry about purchasing the wrong format)

Jackie – thanks for the cover love! It’s actually the first of three Phantom Corps books – which are a mini series which takes place in my Federation Chronicles world. Just turned it in last month in fact!

  3. I didn’t think it was the third Federation, but I thought I recognized the Phantom Corps part. That’s awesome that we’re getting more of the Federation novels!
