Check out the cover for a new anthology Angela Knight, Meljean Brook, Nalini Singh and Virginia Kantra are doing. Burning Up will hit the shelves in August 3, 2010 and Meljean has a teaser up for her story Here There Be Monsters.
Two years ago, blacksmith Ivy, desperate to flee London, purchased her overseas passage by agreeing to spend the voyage in the bed of the pirate captain, Mad Machen. Saved at the last minute by his rival, Ivy scraped out a new life in Fool’s Cove…until Mad Machen finds her, forces her to accept a job that will create a monster, and reminds her that she still owes him the price of a journey…
io9 is talking about When Monsters Change Sides: 10 Horror Icons Who Turned Good. This is actually quite amusing in that I didn’t even know half of these “good” monsters existed. They made a Dracula the Superhero?
Ilona Andrews has another snippet up for the second Edge novel. This time William isn’t involved, so we’re getting a glimpse of either a future hero or the current villain. At least that’s my guess.

The UK Independent has an interesting article. Fangs for the Memories: the A-Z of Vampires chronicles a lot of the elements that have shown up in various vampires stories over the years.
There’s been another Top 20 of Vampires list posted by Guide to Beauty Schools.com. A lot of the regulars have made it on the list, but they do include a few new ones as well.
I just noticed that Colleen Gleason will be in the Brighton area if anyone is in Michigan on December 19th. That’s not too far from me, so I may try and make it out there. Gleason will be at the Brighton Borders Books & Music from 11am to 1pm doing a Holiday Book signing.
I seriously love this. If I was one to get a tattoo, I would so get this. For those who are wondering where it came from, this is one of Barron’s protection tattoos from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series.
PC Cast has announced the title to the next House of Night novel. Burned will be out May 27, 2010 and that’s all we know at this point.
SciFiGuy has another fabulous Weekend Report. Have you seen it yet? You should.
All Things Urban Fantasy is wondering how much book covers influence your purchases. I’ll be honest with everyone, they influence me a lot, which is one of the reason why I do post so many covers here. I love looking at the artwork and seeing what catches my eye. There are many books I’ve picked up based on the cover alone that have ended up being great reads – Jeaneiene Frost’s Halfway to the Grave, Maria Snyder’s Poison Study and Laurell K Hamilton’s Guilty Pleasures – just to name a few.
I probably should have included these with the newsletter yesterday, but I had so many covers I decided to save some for today. Check these out: Bewitched & Betrayed by Lisa Shearin, which is the fourth Raine Benares novel and will be released April 27, 2010 (SciFiGuy has the info); The Hellhound King by Lori Devoti, which releases on February 1, 2010 (via Shapeshifter Romance); and Through Stone and Sea by Barb and J.C. Hendee, which will be out January 5, 2010 (SciFiGuy has the info).
That first one is for Jenna Black’s The Devil’s Playground that Michelle’s Book Blog found, but I’m not sure if this is the UK cover or they redid the US version. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t a fan of the US version, but I could get behind this one. It seems more Morgan to me and has that dark feel to it (although the series isn’t that dark). Even though the US version is a remake of a foriegn cover of The Devil Inside, it just feels to much like a YA novel to me. If anyone knows the deal on this, let me know please!

That cover of The Devil’s Playground IS the UK cover. I just looked on Amazon UK.

And here’s a link to their other covers of her books. This one looks just like the other covers in the Morgan Kingsley series. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=jenna+black
I meant to say that last link has the other books in the series and they all look alike in the UK. Not that they look like the US ones..just making sure I was clear. LOL
