Escapist Newsletter (Vol. 3 Issue 4)

I hate starting posts off with sad news, but this is just so heartbreaking. Andy Hallett, who played Lorne in Angel, has died from heart disease. He was only 33!  He was spectacular as Lorne and he will be missed.

The new releases page has been updated, but I know there are novels coming out that are not on my list, so if you know of any, let me know.  But let’s continue with the good news, here are this month’s new releases:

Maggie Stiefvater had a couple of new covers to show in March. Her publisher ended up completely redoing the design for Lament (Oct 2008) for the release of her follow-up novel, Ballad, which is set to release this October 1, 2009. For more information on Stiefvater’s series, check out her website here.

For fans of George RR Martin, the idea that an HBO show based on Game of Thrones is a little closer to being confirmed. Winter is Coming announced that during a a short interview with David Benioff, Benioff stated that they will begin filming in October.

Here is some happy Jocelynn Drake news. The third novel in her Dark Days series, Dawnbreaker, is up for preorder at Amazon. It is tentatively schedule to be released September 29, 2009. There is now a discussion board for all things Jocelynn Drake, so if you just HAVE to talk about Nightwalker, the upcoming Dayhunter or anything else related to Drake, head over and check it out.

Anther novel that is no up for preorder is the anthology, Unbound, featuring Kim Harrison, Vicki Pettersson, Melissa Marr, Jeaniene Frost, and Jocelynn Drake. It’s release date is August 25, 2009.

Ilona Andrews now has a forum, so head on over for some great discussions about the Kate Daniels series and other novels.

In more Twilight news, one of the evil members of the Volturi has been casted. Dakota Fanning is going to be Jane in New Moon. The Examiner is giving us a taste of what is going to happen in New Moon. Access Entertainment has this deleted scene from Twilight that is awesome.

Have you heard? The fourth Accidental Friends novel by Dakota Cassidy is going to be Accidentally Demonic and it’s slated to be released February 2010.

Keri Arthur has started the 9th and final novel in the Riley Jensen series, which is tentatively titled Captured by Vengeance. No word on when it’s going to be released, but my guess is February 2010.

Nalini Singh had to find out if there was going to be a sequel to the newley released The Shadow Queen and she found out that there is going to be one. Shalador’s Lady is set to be released in March 2010.

Here’s the second round of new covers: Lilith Saintrcrow’s Flesh Circus (December 2009); Ann Aguirre’s Doubleblind (September 29, 2009); and Rachel Caine’s Fade Out (November 3, 2009) and Cape Storm (August 4, 2009).

It looks like Melissa Marr has firmed up her Fragile Eternity tour schedule. For all the details, she has them posted up at her livejournal page.

The Demonica trilogy by Larissa Ione is going to be expanded into a series. That’s right, there’s going to be more than 3 novels. Ione has been contracted for two more novels in this series and she’ll have more information on book 4 when Passion Unleashed comes out.

Round Three: Jennifer Armintrout’s Queene of Light (not yet determined); Gail Carriger’s Soulless (not yet determined); the anthology Hot For The Holidays featuring Lora Leigh, Angela Knight, Anya Bast and Allyson James (September 29, 2009); and Nalini Singh’s Blaze of Memory (November 3, 2009).

Suburban Vampire has information on a new online series involving vampires. The indie film project is touted as a “Kevin Smith meets Interview with the Vampire,” so if it sounds interesting, head over for the details.

Laurell K Hamilton has added an excerpt for Skin Trade, the next Anita Blake novel, to her website.  Speaking of the Anita series, LKH announced the release schedule for the audiobook versions.  Guilty Pleasures will be released August 20, 2009; The Laughing Corpse on October 1, 2009; Circus of the Damned on October 29, 2009; and the Lunatic Cafe on . The rest of the series is planned to be released, but those are the release dates at the moment.

Anita is definitely going on the silver screen.  SciFiGuy found an article talking about the film project which seems to be a “made for TV” movie, which is aimed to be released in 2010.  Here is also the official press release for the project and an article SciFi Wire did on it.  And just to prove it isn’t an April Fools Joke (I so forgot that was today, maybe that’s why the wigglemonster isn’t taking his nap), here are a couple more articles from Variety and the Live Feed.

George RR Martin has put together a new anthology featuring some great authors.  The new collection will be called Warriors and here you can see the list of amazing authors for this collection.  Two of my favorites are there: Diana Gabaldon (with a Lord John novella) and Carrie Vaughn.  Warriors has a tentative release date of March 2010.

Round Four: the anthology Jeaniene Frost’s Destined for an Early Grave (July 28, 2009); Ilona Andrew’s On the Edge (September 29, 2009); Kelley Armstrong’s Angelic (December 2009); and The Phantom Queen Awakes featuring a long list of authors (October 31, 2009);

Some good news for PC & Kristin Cast fans. SciFiGuy has news that they were contracted for 12 more novels.  Some may be part of the House of Night series, but not all of them (I believe).  They also announced that the next novel will be titled Tempted and it’s already available at Amazon. Tempted is tentatively scheduled to be out October 27, 2009.

True Blood has won the Lord Ruthven Award from the Lord Ruthven Assembly, which is a scholarly organization that studies the fantastic in literature, film and any other artistic form. This year, True Blood won the award as part of the category of Media/Pop Culture, which was presented at this years International Conference on the Fantastic in the Art.

There are some great authors stopping by Literary Escapism in April and May, so make sure you stick around to check them out. For a complete schedule, click here or check out the events page at LE’s Facebook page.

Don’t ask me how, but guess what is available for preorder on Amazon.  A Touch of Dead, the tenth Sookie Stackhouse novel by Charlaine Harris, will be in October 2009.  Sweetness!  We’ll be getting two Sookies this year.

There’s an official release date for An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon!  Origianlly, I had said it was going to be released in October, but Random House has said it will be out September 22, 2009!  I can’t wait.  Oohhhh and there’s a blurb for the novel.  Check it out:

Jamie Fraser, erstwhile Jacobite and reluctant rebel, knows three things about the American rebellion: The Americans will win, unlikely as that seems in 1777; being on the winning side is no guarantee of survival; and he’d rather die than face his illegitimate son—a young lieutenant in the British army—across the barrel of a gun.

His time-traveling wife, Claire, knows that the Americans will win, but not what the ultimate price may be. That price won’t include Jamie’s life or happiness, though—not if she has anything to say about it.

And in the relative safety of the 20th century, their daughter Brianna and her husband, Roger, watch the unfolding of her parents story in the past—a past that may be sneaking up behind their own family.”

Round Six: Stacia Kane’s Demon Inside (July 28, 2009); Keri Arthur’s Bound to Shadows (October 27, 2009); Maria Snyder’s Sea Glass (September 1, 2009); and Chris Marie Green’s The Path of Razors (August 4, 2009).

Janet Evanovich has posted the first chapter of the next Stephanie Plum novel, Finger Lickin’ Fifteen, which is due to be released .

Here are this month’s reviews:

Have we seen the cover for Bad Moon Rising by Sherrilyn Kenyon yet?  It’s the next Dark-Hunters novel and it features Fang and Aimee.  I have to say, I am really liking the direction the new DH covers have taken.

io9 has a pretty good article of a lot of the sci-fi/fantasy television shows that are on this season.

And finally – Round Seven: the anthology Belong to the Night featuring Shelly Laurenston, Cynthia Eden and Sherrill Quinn (September 2009); Cynthia Eden’s Midnight’s Master; Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Bad Moon Rising (August 4, 2009); and Deborah Cooke’s Kiss of Fate ().

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
