Look Who’s Going to RT: Laura Kaye

Laura KayeCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’d love to! I write paranormal, contemporary and erotic romance, and have two paranormal series ongoing: the Vampire Warrior Kings series (In the Service of the King) is four dark paranormal erotic novellas with Harlequin Nocturne, and the Hearts of the Anemoi series (North of Need) is four full-length contemporary fantasy romances based on Greek mythology. I’m also a wife, mom of two young girls, historian, and lover of all things vampire. *grins*

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
The Hearts of the Anemoi series (North of Need) is based on the mythology of the Anemoi, wind gods the Greeks associated with the seasons and the weather. In the mythology, the four Anemoi were brothers (Boreas, Zephyros, Notos, and Eurus) controlled by their storm god father (named Aeolus) who each guarded over one of the four winds and seasons. There are lots of great conflicts built into the mythology of the Anemoi: jilted lovers, fraternal rivalries, abusive father, etc., and those make their way into the series, which also bring in a number of the lesser Anemoi gods as well.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
I’m a newbie! And I can’t wait! Please look for me and say “hello,” because I’m a total introvert and sometimes find it a little hard to reach out to strangers in person…but approach me and I’ll talk your ear off! (not really, well, maybe…)

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
Yes! I will be one of the authors on the Name That Vampire reader/game panel, and that’s going to be so much fun. We’ll have gift bags for the first thirty people who sign up, plus prizes to hand out during the game. So if you think you’re the world’s biggest vampire fan, come on out to our panel and prove it! I’ll also be signing at the e-Expo book fair and at the giant book fair on Saturday, and I’ll be at Entangled Publishing’s event on Saturday, too. The single panel I’m most looking forward to attending is J.R. Ward’s on Friday. zomg.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Laura Kaye’s the name. 40ish mom-by-day-hot-author-lady-by-night’s the game. I also have blue eyes and a crooked smile if that helps. LOL

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

Just bring comfy shoes for RT. Best advice I can give.

  3. “Name that Vampire?” What a cool game. So glad RT is going to have so much stuff. I sooo wish I could be there at RT, too. Fingers crossed for next year.
As one of Laura’s friends and crit partners I can tell you another way to find her: she has an engaging and fun laugh.
Have fun! P.S. Laura, I can’t wait to read your next book since I only get little glimpses of books at critique meetings. :)

  4. Hi Laura! Have fun at RT – I’m not going to make it this year, boo! My advice – take advantage of the networking, it’s easy to get comfortable with your own group of awesome friends and forget to meet new people.

    >>Waves to MaureenO<< Hey pirate lady!
