Books & More

REMINDER: the contest for a copy of Wild Highland Magic ends tomorrow night at midnight. If you haven’t checked out Kendra Leigh Castle’s post and entered the contest, get over there now. :)

Check out the hotness Karen Mahoney found. It’s the US and UK covers (respectively) for The Eternal Kiss: 12 Vampire Tales of Blood and Desire.  It comes out July 27th and it has an impressive list of authors contributing stories – Kelley Armstrong, Holly Black, Libba Bray, Sarah Rees Brennan, Rachel Caine, Cecil Castellucci, Cassandra Clare, Melissa De La Cruz, Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguie, Dina James, Karen Mahoney, Maria V. Snyder and Lili St. Crow.  There’s actually quite a few authors I haven’t read yet, so this is one I am definitely going to be picking up.  Anthologies are great for checking out new authors.  At least, I think so.

Interviews:

The Times Online has an interesting article about the effect zombies are having on our current recession.

Kmont at Lurv a la Mode has introduced me to a new author.  Seanan McGuire is the author behind the new urban fantasy series October Daye, which begins will Rosemary and Rue due out on September 1, 2009.  There’s also release dates for the next two novels in the series – A Local Habitation (March 2010) and An Artificial Night (September 2010).  There wil also four more books in the works for this series – Late Eclipses, The Brightest Fell, Ashes of Honor and Tributes in the Dust.  The other great thing, the cover art is done by the amazing Chris McGrath.  Yeah, I’m totally swiping this from SciFiGuy, but aren’t these covers amazing?

Amberkatze Book Reviews has moved!  Plus, Amber has given the site a spiffy new makeover, so make sure you head over and check it out.  You may also want to update your links.  :)

I have to thank Patricia’s Vampire Notes for pointing out this next bit of news to me.  The May issue of Locus Magazine is going to feature a lot of urban fantasy authors – Kim Harrison, Patricia Briggs and Marjorie Liu.  Plus there will be commentary by Charlaine Harris, Kelley Armstrong, Vicki Petersson, Mike Carey, T. A. Pratt, Carrie Vaughn, Ginger Buchanan, Diana Gill, MaryElizabeth Hart and that’s  just to name a few.  I’m going to have to get my hands on a copy of this magazine.  You can also check out their website for more information.

io9 has a pretty good writeup about the recent Nebula Awards ceremony.  Joss Whedon was honored with the Ray Bradbury Award.

Caitlin Kittredge is showing off the new cover to her second Black London novel, Demon Bound, which will be released in December 2009.

Check out the news SciFiGuy has found – Yasmine Galenorn has announced the title for the seventh book in her Otherworld series.  Bone Magic will be out January 5, 2010.  Plus, if you want more from the Otherworld, you can check out her story in the upcoming anthology, Inked, which has the story of when Camille and Trillian first met.  It was also announced that Galenorn’s new urban fantasy series, Indigo Court, will debut with Night Myst in June 2010.  Looks like I have a lot to update my releases page with.

Some good news for Laurell K Hamilton and Anita Blake fans.  Genre Go Round Reviews has a review up for Skin Trade and it appears that we’ll be getting some old-school Anita.

I haven’t read any steampunk yet, but that genre has been generating a lot of interest lately.  Now, you can get even more steampunk with the new SteamPunk Magazine.  They actually download the fifth issue at the website if you want to check it out.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
