Look Who’s Going to RT: Sarah Zettel

Sarah ZettelCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
My name is Sarah Zettel, and I’ve been a full time novelist since 1998. I’ve written science fiction, fantasy, mystery, young adult, and, of course romance. My erotic paranormal regencies appear under the name Marissa Day, and I will have a new “straight” erotic regency coming out soon from Berkely Heat. This year at RT, though, I’m attending under my own name in my guise as a young adult author, backing my AMERICAN FAIRY trilogy and my soon-to-hit-the-shelves brand new YA historical series, PALACE OF SPIES.

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
The American Fairy triology starts in the Dust Bowl, 1935. Kansas girl Callie LeRoux finds herself caught in the power games between the Seelie and Unseelie courts, and she gets to discover that being a fairy princess is not all it’s cracked up to be. The first book, DUST GIRL, is already out and has been chosen both by Kirkus Reviews and the ALA for their lists of best teen fiction for 2012. The second, GOLDEN GIRL, will be out this summer (June). I’ve also got the new historical series coming out, Palace of Spies. The first book, A MOST DANGEROUS DECEPTION, will also be out this summer. This is set during the rein of King George I, and features the adventures of Peggy Fitzroy, accused thief, counterfiet lady, and confidential agent to Her Royal Highness, Caroline, Princess of Wales.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
I’ve been to a few RTs now, and I do love it. I’ve got 2 pieces of advice: the first is advance prep. Set your priorities, the events or panels you most want to attend ahead of time. You will always find waaaaay more to do as the conference moves along. The second is pace yourself. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, taking some sanity breaks, maybe even getting out of the hotel/conference center at least once. Taking a breather will help increase your enjoyment.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
I am not on panels this year (my own fault, I got my…stuff together too late), but I will be paying close attention to the teen track panels, and of course, I’ll be at the Big Book Signing on Saturday on YA row. If the stars align, I will have copies of A MOST DANGEROUS DECEPTION to give away.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
They should look for Sarah Zettel. She’ll be around. Probably in the bar, bent over a research book.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
