Look Who’s Going to RT: Vivian Arend

Vivian ArendCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
I’m a life-long reader who loves to travel, and somehow in the middle of my adventures I ended up writing a book, or two. Four years ago my first short story was published and since then I’ve expanded to writing novels in multiple genres, but all of them with a happily-ever-after.

My first stories were paranormals (Granite Lake Wolves – Wolf Signs) then I added contemporary cowboys (Six Pack Ranch – Rocky Mountain Heat). Now I’ve got sci-fi, regular contemporary, steamy romances and a brand new series involving search and rescue (Adrenaline – High Risk).

Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
In Adrenaline, the newest series from Berkley Sensation, I chose to set the stories against the beautiful backdrop of the Canadian Rockies. The hero has established Lifeline, an elite search-and-rescue squad based out of Banff, Alberta. Specializing in high-risk rescue missions, this team goes wherever the job takes them…

The heroine is recovering from a tragic accident where she lost her climbing partner and most of her memories of the event, and between the two of them Marcus and Becki find not only their pasts but a future. Oh, with a lot of heat long the way. Just saying.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This year in Kansas City will be my third RT in a row. I’ve loved the ones I’ve attended and my top three bits of advice for anyone attending would be:

1-Don’t be shy. I know, it seems freaky to consider going right up to that author who you’ve glommed everyone of their books and saying hello. You know what? That author is fangirling over the author over THERE and trying to work up the courage to go say hello as well. We’re ALL readers, and we get it. Also? A lot of authors are actually introverts and think no one wants to talk to them, so trust me on this one. You’ll make their day.

2-Dress comfy. While shoes and purses get a lot of air-time talk on twitter, in the end you’ll be happier if you wear comfy shoes and slip those killer heels into a hand bag to change into once you reach the bar. (The bar AKA the social interaction area AKA my office.)

3-Number one bit of organizational advice I can give? Stop off at the post office before you go, and pick up a Priority Mail box that’s already postage paid to carry in your luggage. The large boxes you can load up with books and swag and send home for about $15, which is cheaper than dealing with extra luggage costs if you’re flying.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to?
I’m doing a couple reader events. Apples to Apples game, and the Cowboy round-up. I’ll be at a number of the publisher events as well: Samhain Safari and the Carina cocktail party.

In terms of panels I tend to spend more time in the hallways, coffee shop and my office ( ie the Bar) visiting with people. I live in a small community where romance isn’t a big genre, so when I get a chance to be around people who love HEAs, I want to soak in time with them.

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
The cowboy hat and the smile. Seriously, I’ll be at the book signing and the ebook expo, so you’ll be able to track me down those places for sure, but the rest of the time I am fair game. I usually carry treats with me, so if nothing else, be brave and come and get some swag.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.
