Escapist Uncensored: The day I hated books

Escapists Uncensored

Escapists UncensoredIt started with an expedition, in the Book Storage Zone of my house, to find a book. I looked through two large boxes, and a large plastic bin, then rummaged through my overflowing bookshelf before I finally found it. I was exhausted.

I sat back, giving my hoard an evil glare. I even sent a mental message to husband of ‘Do you see this? THIS is why I need my wall ‘o books, and why I won’t stop hounding you to give it to me!’ Cause ya know, we can speak mentally to each other.

It wasn’t long after, that I walked into my bedroom to grab something. My eyeballs instantly lock on to my partial Books to Read Zone. The rest are in the mess mentioned above. It consists of two small boxes and two small bins sitting next to my bed. As well as stacks of more books all around the containers. I then notice the overflow of my favorites stacked on my night stand, and under my bed, because there is no more room in zone #1. I decided not to make eye contact with them for the rest of the day, cause the idea of all those books made me woozy.

Also, I couldn’t look at my iPad, knowing I have over 100 ebooks on it.

My next run in was when I had to drop off clean clothes into the kiddos rooms. To get to my son’s bed, I stepped over a pile of books. My brain screamed “Am I being punked right now?”, as I dumped his clothes on the bed. When I turned to leave, I saw that his bookcase had 2 books in it, the rest were scattered all over his room and even in his closet. Enter a dramatic, eye roll to the ceiling, moment. I walked immediately into my daughter’s room and saw the exact same thing. I tossed her clothes, hoping they land on her bed, and refused to walk back into their rooms for the rest of the day.

At that point, I thought to myself ‘ ok self, we are going to play on Facebook and forget this nightmare’. And, of course, the top three status updates were a free ebook posted by Jackie, and two friends of mine talking about the latest book they had read.

I wanted to punch a baby.

Clearly it’s time to up my game and nag my husband to build the shelves 24/7. Or find someone who can. This is beyond out of control. This has turned into a messy nightmare!

P.S. It is not time to get rid of books. How dare you! They have feelings you know.
