Not Digging Sharks Right Now

It must be shark week on Discover.  Why we must watch a third hour of shark attacks is beyond me, especially when we saw this episode in the first hour. Okay, I need something happy. Rachel Vincent has Dancing Zombies, that’ll work.  :)

Tez Says had the first cover of Kelley Armstrong’s The Reckoning, but ScifiGuy has come through with a larger copy. Check it out, ain’t it snazzy?  The Reckoning is the third Darkest Powers novel and will be out April 27, 2010.

The cover gods are smiling on MLN Hanover. SciFiGuy has come across the cover for his second Black Sun’s Daughter novel, Darker Angels.  This is the follow-up to Unclean Spirits, which also had an amazing cover.  Darker Angels will be released September 29, 2009.

Interviews:

Fangoria just spotlighted a new anthology that will be appearing in stores next month.  Hellbound Hearts won’t be your typical UF/PNR anthology since its celebrating the Hellraiser creator Clive Barker.  However, the contributing author list has two that I am familiar with – Neil Gaiman, and Kelley Armstrong.  The other authors listed are: Steve Niles, Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, Mick Garris, Richard Christian Matheson, Sarah Langan, Mark Morris, Nancy Kilpatrick, Peter Atkins, Tim Lebbon, Nancy Holder, Yvonne Navarro and Nicholas Vince.  Pocket Books will be releasing Hellbound Hearts on September 29, 2009.

Terry Brooks has a new story coming out in his Landover series.  A Princess of Landover comes out September and Orbit has a sneak peek.

Suburban Vampire has a great list of August Vampire Events.  Make sure you head over and check it out.  You never know, something may be going on in your area.

I came across this novel over at Steph Su Reviews and the tags “paranormal and angels” caught my eye.  That and the cover.  Check out Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzgerald, which comes out October 13, 2009 by Simon & Schuster.  I’m intrigued.

Orbit has annoucned the winning title for their Worst Cover Ever contest.  Want to know what it is? Across a Trembling Sea the Cyborg Fairies Dance will be receiving the worst ever cover the art department at Orbit can come up with.  Now Orbit needs two more elements to round out the new cover – the author and reading line – so if you have any suggestions, head on over and leave a comment.

It’s sad that Reading Rainbow has lost all of it’s funding.  PBS has announced that they will be pulling the show from their lineup for good at the end of the month.  I honestly can’t remember too much about the show (I know, I lack), but Babbling About Books has a really good piece on it.

Contests:

  • Larissa Ione is giving away a lot of stuff to celebrate her new website redesign.  Contest ends August 31st.
  • Katie’s Book Blog is giving away a copy of Maria Snyder’s Sea Glass.  Contest ends August 15th.
  • Steph Su Reviews is giving away an ARC copy of Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzgerald.  Contest ends August 28th.

Okay, that’s it for the weekend.  I’m going to be pretty occupied for the next 24 hours, but expect a good Sunday Surprise.  I have a couple of good books this week.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. *sniff* Reading Rainbow was the one show I had to watch when I was a kid. I just can’t get the theme song out of my head!

The model on the cover of Darker Angels has the most awesome exercise regiment. from the looks of her body.
