We can thank Meljean Brook for point this out – Comix4Sight.com is holding auctions to help John Ostrander, a writer, raise the money necessary to pay for his glaucoma surgery (find out more here). There appears to be all sorts of comic paraphernalia that is up for auction, so if you know a comic fan, I would check it out.
Ann Aguirre is talking about Twitter over at Something Wicked. Do you prefer it over Facebook and mySpace? What do you like about it? Personally, I like Twitter for the status update feature (especially since I can sync it with Facebook), but I do have to mention I love Facebook as a sort of blog.
Has everyone heard of Fifty-Two Stories? The minds behind Harper Perennial are posting one new short story a week. Some of the stories are new, and some may be classics, but they are all from authors we either know and love or really need to be reading. This is a great idea and I am loving it. The current story is by Alaa Al Aswany and is called The Kitchen Boy.
Diana Gabaldon has confirmed that Echo in the Bone is done and has been to press. She currently has a copy and says they look beautiful. Not much longer and we’ll be able to bask in its glory as well. Okay, so I’m a huge Gabaldon fan, if you haven’t figure that out yet. However, that’s not the news I was going to share. Diana also confirmed that she is contributing a short story to the new Star-Crossed Lovers which is edited by George R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois. No word on what the story will entail, but that just means we won’t have to wait another 4 years for something new. :)
SciFiGuy is showing off a new novel being published by Sourcebook – Zombies for Zombies: Advice and Etiquette for The Living Dead by David Murphy, which even comes with illustrations. Scheduled to be released October 1st, this looks to be a really fun read. Doug has all the details so head on over and check it out.
Ilona Andrews has posted another snippet from her upcoming On the Edge novel, which comes out September 29th. This actually inspired a reading dilemma for me today. I received my copy in the mail, and I really want to open it up, but I need to finish A Darkness Forged in Fire and Happy Hour of the Damned before I read anything more. Plus, I’ve also been totally taken with my new Kindle.
Dirty Sexy Books has a great article titled Science Fiction Romance for Dummies. I haven’t had a chance to read all of it yet, but from what I’ve seen, there’s some good stuff in there.
Contests:
- The League of Reluctant Adults (or Jennifer Rardin) is having a giveaway as a bribe to get people to vote in the Bitten by Books poll for Sexiest Male Vampire. The League has three contenders and even Bitten By Books is having a giveaway for it. Contest ends September 11th.
- The Deadline Dames has posted their monthly Readers on Deadline contest. Contest ends September 16th.
Thanks for the shout out! I’m an Ostrander fan, but even anyone who hasn’t heard of his work might find something they’ll like at the auction site. I’ll have a full set of my books up there, eventually (they are only putting up 10 items per week; I’m not sure what week mine will be yet.)
Nice cover for Richelle Mead’s book! You wrote the wrong title. I was confused for a second cause it brought me to book 3 but the cover is for book 5.
doh! All fixed.
LOL ok. :) I need to read Richelle Mead. I have a ton of her books but just haven’t had a chance to read them yet.
