It’s my first author reveal for Coastal Magic Convention…I cannot wait to see Jocelynn Drake in Daytona! I’m a huge fan of her Asylum Tales and Dark Days series and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
Love comes in many varied forms. There is the love of family, love of country, and love of chocolate. But for Jocelynn Drake, one truly treasured love is the love of a good story. This Midwestern native spends the majority of her time lost in the strong embrace of a good book. When she’s not hammering away at her keyboard, frowning at her monitor, or curled up with a book, she can usually be found cuddling with her cat Demona, walking her dog Max, or flinging curses at the TV while playing a video game. Outside of books, cats, and video games, she is completely enamored of Bruce Wayne, Ezio Auditore, travel, tattoos, explosions, fast cars, and Anthony Bourdain (but only when he’s feeling really cranky).
If you haven’t checked out any of her fabulous books, then make sure you do so. Even if you’re not coming to Coastal Magic (and you really should), her stories are fantastic.
The Asylum Tales Series
Welcome to Gage’s dangerous world of warlocks, magical tattoos, and strange creatures of fairy tales and legends. The Asylum Tales is about a world where all the creatures live together without the need to hide from the humans.
Are you curious what it’s like to live with a family werebears next door or work with a siren?
Of course, living, working, and finding love among so many magical creatures can be difficult for humans with no unique powers. Sometimes you need a little extra help. And a tattoo can accomplish that.
A tattoo artist is trained not only in tattooing, but in crafting potions that can be placed in a tattoo to give you good luck, change your appearance, win you love, or accomplish a bit of revenge.
While all these creatures might have trouble getting along, there’s a group that even more dangerous … the warlocks and witches of the Ivory Towers. These magical creatures are determined to crush the world beneath their feet.
Gage Powell is a former warlock-in-training and survivor of the Ivory Towers, who is now hiding in Low Town as the owner and as a tattoo artist at Asylum Tattoo Parlor. With the help of his friends and co-workers Trixie, an elf, and Bronx, a troll, they are able to have some fun and laughs while trying to dodge death, make deals with Mother Nature, and escape the warlocks and witches.
The Dark Days Series
Mira, the Fire Starter, is trying to save the world from the naturi, but she might have finally met her match in the vampire hunter Danaus, a man with a secret and a hidden skill.
The naturi is an ancient race that worked for many years to protect the earth. Unfortunately, their efforts were frequently undone by both the humans and the bori – a race of creatures that survived on the energy generated by a living creature’s soul. In a rare moment of camaraderie, the vampires (nightwalkers) and the lycanthropes (werewolves) teamed up to lock the naturi and the bori away in an alternative plane of existence.
But Dark Days are ahead.
Not all the naturi were locked away. A few escaped that final battle high up in the Peruvian mountains. They have been working for centuries to free their queen and the rest of the naturi so that they can rid the planet of both nightwalkers and humans.
Mira is a nightwalker with a unique gift, a rare ability that she possessed a human that followed her into death. But that unique gift has made her a target among her own people. She is determined to save humanity and crush the naturi, but she can’t do it alone.
Yet her assistance comes from the most unexpected of places in the form of a thousand-year-old nightwalker hunter with secrets and a hidden power.
Follow Mira and Danaus as they travel to Egypt, Italy, Peru, Hungary, and the United States, fighting the naturi.
