Escapist Newsletter (Vol 2 Issue 10)

Check out the cover shininess Nalini Singh was able to share. Her novel, Angels’ Blood, will be released March 3, 2009. For a taste of this new story, click here for an excerpt.  In other Nalini news, Branded by Fire has a released date of July 7, 2009 and it’s now available for pre-order at Amazon.  I’ve already checked out the excerpt and it sounds really good.

Dakota Cassidy has a couple of new covers to show off.  The first one is for Kiss & Hell (June 2009) and the second on is for her third Accidental Friends novel, The Accidental Human (March 2009).

I’ve recently learned of a new anthology with Jeaniene Frost.  Actually, she’s the only author I recognize out of the bunch – Cathy Maxwell, Elaine Fox, Jeaniene Frost, Sophia Nash, and Tracy Anne Warren.  The anthology will be called Four Dukes and a Devil and will be released June 15, 2009.  Another anthology Frost will be is called Unbound.  It’s due out August 2009 and will include authors Jocelynn Drake, Melissa Marr, Vicki Petterrson, and Kim Harrison.  This one sounds like it’s going to be really good.

Even though it’s still 2008, I’ve been doing a lot of adding to the New Releases page.  The list continues to grow and there are even novels already slated for 2010, so make sure you check it out.  If you know of any that haven’t been added, let me know.

Guess what I just saw on Kelley Armstrong’s website….the 10th novel in the Otherworld series has been titled and we have a tentative release date. It’s going to be called Frostbitten and will be out sometime in November 2009. Yeah, it’s a year away, but some good news is that it will involve Elena and Clay. Yea! The werewolves are back.

When word comes of a series of humans apparently killed by wolves near Anchorage, Elena and Clay are sent to check things out. But they find more than they bargained for among the snow and trees of the savage Alaskan wilderness.

Armstrong has added the first three chapters of her new Nadia Stratford novel, Made to be Broken, to her website – Chapter One, Chapter Two, Chapter Three.  She’s also running a contest for three ARC’s.  The contest runs until Nov. 15th, so if you’re interested, go over and enter.  Made to be Broken will be released Feb. 24, 2009.  Armstrong has also started a presence over at Twitter.  Here’s something about Armstrong that I’m really excited about…she’s coming to Detroit!  She’ll be at the Cryptic ConFusion Convention, January 23-25, 2009.  I’m going to have to get more details about this.

A new author has been pointed out to me. It’s VK Forrest and the second novel in her Clare Point series is Undying. It’s due out in December 2008 and it’s one that I found via Sidhe Vicious. If Judi’s recommended it, something tells me I should go out and find the first one – Eternal.

Interviews:

I still have to get to the second Nikki Styx novel, A Match Made in Hell, by Terri Garey, but here’s the cover for the third novel, You’re The One That I Haunt.  It’s due out February 2009.

Sherrilyn Kenyon has put up an excerpt for Fury’s story, which will appear in the anthology Dead After Dark and is released Dec. 2, 2009.  Her fellow authors contributing are J.R. Ward, Susan Squires, and Dianna Love.

Caitlin Kittredge has just sold a new YA fantasy trilogy called the Iron Codex, which beings with The Witch’s Alphabet, to Delacorte.  The series is set in a Lovecraftian industrial city in an alternate 1950s and involves a gift mechanic who must solve the riddle of why her family goes crazy at the age of 16.

For a list of upcoming Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy conventions, check out the SAWG blog. The conventions they have listed are mainly around the Texas area, but they include Conestoga XIII, which is scheduled for April 24-26, 2009 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Speaking of conventions, I just came across this post by Twilight Guy about a Twilight convention that will be held in Dallas, TX next year.  You can find more info about it at Twicon.org.

Starting today, Cynthia Eden is launching a huge contest called “Sin a Little” at her blog.  She’s getting ready for the release of Midnight Sins on Nov. 25th and she’s doing it with a lot of prizes.  Some of the prizes she’s giving away are:  $100 gift certificate to Victoria’s Secret, $50 gift certificate to Bath and Body Works, $25 Amazon.com gift certificate–and, of course, books.  So go over there today and see what’s up for grabs.  Midnight Sins is the sequel to Hotter Than Midnight.

Ann Aguirre has posted her cover for Blue Diablo, which is her new urban fantasy that comes out April 7, 2009.  If the cover intrigues you, make sure you check out the excerpt.

If you haven’t heard about it yet, the inaugural Australian Romance Readers Convention is going to take place at the Jasper Hotel in Melbourne, Australia, February 20-22, 2009. If you’re going to be Down Under during this time frame, you’ll be able to meet a bunch of authors, discuss varoius romance sub-genres, buy books and get them signed as well. It’s a romance convention, so of course that means it’ll be one big party too.

I just saw that Maria Snyder’s second novel in her new Glass series will be out in September 2009.  The title will be Sea Glass.  That’s about all I’ve been able to find out that one for tStorm Glasshe moment.  However, I did find out that Snyder has put up the first chapter for Storm Glass and it’s going to be out sometime in April 2009.

Charlaine Harris is having a closet sale of her novels.  Basically, she needs to get rid of everything and she has a huge list of her books that she is selling off.  The beautiful part about this, if you buy them from her, they’ll come signed as well.  Here’s the list of books in her closet sale.  If you’re interested in any, email Paula (bffpaulaATyahooDOTcom) and she’ll get you the details (aka how much and where to send it to).

Just as an FYI….The Bookworms Carnival is going to be making a stop at Literary Escapism in December.  The topic for my stop is Historical Fiction and I’ll be taking review posts up until Dec. 12th.  While historical fiction may be a sub-genre of it’s own, it can also cross over into many different genres as well. There are a lot of paranormal romance novels out there that take place during the Renaissance or Elizabethan periods; you can also find a lot of Chick Lit that has a strong historical feel to it as well. So regardless of your taste in literature, whether you prefer the thrillers to mysteries to outright humor, it’s very possible to find something that can also be considered historical fiction.  Here are some links to some previous Bookworms Carnival stops.

Rebecca York has posted the new cover for Eternal Moon over at Shapeshifter Romance. So what do you think? The novel is set to be published on April 7, 2009.

Carrie Vaughn has posted the the first chapter for Kitty and the Dead Man’s Hand.

Sunny announced that the release date for Lucinda, Dangerously, the follow up to Lucinda Darkly, has been pushed back to October 2009.

Did you love the Nightwalker series by Jacquelyn Frank?  Then you should be getting excited for her new series, the Shadowdwellers, which start up in January with Ecstasy.  Frank has put up the blurb for the first novel and here it is:

Among the Shadowdwellers, Trace holds power that some are willing to kill for. Without a stranger’s aid, one rival would surely have succeeded, but Trace’s brush with death is less surprising to him than his reaction to the beautiful, fragile human who heals him. By rights, Trace should hardly even register Ashla’s existence within the realm of Shadowscape, but instead he is drawn to everything about her—her innocence, her courage, and her lush, sensual heat…

After a terrifying car crash, Ashla Townsend wakes up to find that the bustling New York she knew is now eerie and desolate. Just when she’s convinced she’s alone, Ashla is confronted by a dark warrior who draws her deeper into a world she never knew existed. The bond between Ashla and Trace is a mystery to both, but searching for answers will mean confronting long-hidden secrets, and uncovering a threat that could destroy everything Trace holds precious…

Karen Chance has announced the title for the second Dorina Basarab novel.  It’s going to be called Death’s Mistress and it has a tentative release date of October 2009.  In more shiny news, there is also an excerpt up for the fourth Cassie Palmer novel, Curse the Dawn.

Here’s the cover for Rachel Vincent’s Prey. Rachel also has an excerpt of Pride available.

There was good news for Patricia Briggs fans.  Her Mercedes Thompson series has been optioned for a movie.  However, this doesn’t mean that we’re going to get our Mercy fix anytime soon.  It’s been optioned, so all that means is someone has the option of producing it, but no one has picked it up yet.  Also, the first issue of Mercy: The Homecoming comes out at the end of the month, so make sure you have a comic book retailer.

Jeaniene Frost has the first chapter up for At Grave’s End.  Make sure you keep an eye on her blog, she’s going to be having two contests for advance readers copy for AGE coming up this month.  I now I’m anxious awaiting for it, so I’ll be there.

October Reviews:

Here’s the cover for Cheyenne McCray’s new novel, Demons Not Included. This will be the first book in McCray’s new Night Tracker series and, just by looking at the cover, it looks good so far.

Has anyone ever heard of Parahub Radio?  It’s a classical rock radio station that is all paranormal (the talk, not the songs I believe).  How cool is that?  And here I thought Kitty Norville was the only paranormal DJ out there.  You can even listen online, so go check them out.

Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series has been optioned for film! Not only optioned, but there are plans in the works. Check out this article from Variety.

Essential Pictures has launched development of Outlander as a potential franchise based on the Diana Gabaldon series of fantasy novels.

The newly minted shingle’s out to directors with an adaptation from Randall Wallace (Braveheart); the goal is to start production next spring. Gabaldon’s series of six novels center on an 18th century Scottish Highlander and his time-traveling wife.

I am so excited. I love this series. I mean, re-read every novel in the series right before the new one comes out and then I go out and buy the hardcover. I can’t wait to see the film adaption. I wonder who they’ll get to play Jamie and Clare. Any suggestions?  If you haven’t seen the excerpts for the next Outlander novel, An Echo in the Bone, then here they are: New Year; Wheat; 1st excerpt; 2nd excerpt; 3rd excerpt; 4th excerpt; and the 5th excerpt.

I found something amusing over at Carrie Vaughn’s site.  She has Kitty Norville’s first adventure posted.  It’s titled Dr. Kitty Solves All Your Problems and it appeared in the anthology Weird Tales #324.

Kim Harrison has given us a look for the cover of White Witch, Black Curse.  She’s already her WWBC Tour outlined and she’ll be making stops in: Ann Arbor, MI; Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Dayton, OH (Cincy area); Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA.  Even though Ann Arbor is closer to me, I may have to go to the Dayton session again since my sister lives there and I can take the boy to see her.  Kill two birds with one stone…works for me.  The bookstores hasn’t been determined yet, but I have a feeling I now which ones she’ll be at for both Ann Arbor and Dayton.

Janet Evanovich has a new in-between numbers novel coming out in January.  Plum Spooky will be out January 6, 2009 and already there’s the first two chapters up at her website.  Here’s excerpt 1 and excerpt 2.

About Jackie 3282 Articles
I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. It’s a romance convention, so of course that means it’ll be one big party too.

But you gotta pay extra for those! I’m only going to the two book signing sessions, so that’s $34 total – just paid yesterday. Keri Arthur, Susan Grant and Liz Maverick = WIN! :-)

    Have a lovely day! :-)

  2. What a tremendous job piling all this info together. I am dizzy trying to decide if I should begind reading fantasy/vampires again and put everything else on reading-hold or if I should just grab the occasional Laurell K. Hamilton once in a while. For sure, there are so many books out there just waiting to be read. Thanks for a fab newletter-post.

  3. Honestly, it’s a month long process. Some of the news is also repeated. If it’s super special (like the covers), then I’ve already posted them once, but I try and collect everything that has happened in the previous month in these newsletters. But I also go through a bunch of author sites towards the end of the month just to see what they have going on. Right now, I check 25 author sites and the rest is stuff I stumble onto.

  4. I completely share everyone’s sentiments on this fabulous post and wanted to let you know. Thank you thank you thank you!

  5. Wow this is amazing! Thanks for all the hard work you put in to make such a fantastic newsletter. My humongously increased wishlist thanks you too :)

  6. Wow! I think I just found where to go for the lowdown on all things book related. BTW thanks for mentioning the Tigress review! Very much appreciated. You are unbelievably awesome. :D
