It’s not often that I’ll misjudge a cover, but I actually did that this time with Lady Flatterley by Linda Wagner. When I first saw it, I thought it would be a little too girly for Ian, so I was hesitate to review it; but I’m glad that I did end up getting it. Lady Flatterley is not only beautifully illustrated by Pearl Ollie, but it tells a story that is not only entertaining but is educational. The story of Lady Flatterley is that of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. The book is really well written and the story is told as a rhyme, so there is a really good flow going on.
The one thing that did get to me a little was the overemphasis on the “god” and creationism angle. I’m not a fan of chrisitan literature mainly because I always feel like religion is being pushed onto me regardless of how I feel and I did get a little of that feeling once Lady Flatterley emerged as a butterfly. However, if this had been a full blown out novel, it probalby wouldn’t have bothered me at all, but, this is a children’s book so there isn’t as much content as you’d find in a novel. I will say, it doesn’t bother me enough to prevent me from picking Lady Flatterley up and reading it to Ian again. I actually like the science aspect in telling how a butterfly is born.
Overall, I did enjoy this novel and it did recapture Ian’s attention while we were reading, so it’s a keeper.
Really? “Lady Flatterly”? As in a play on “Lady Chatterly”?
Weird.
Yeah, I have the same reasons for steering clear of Christian Lit. I’ve seen this on a few blogs though and most people seem to like it.
