1st in Series Challenge & Paranormal 999 Challenge

And I’ve found the last two challenges I’m going to do in 2009.  With the additional of these final 2 challenges, I’m giving myself a goal of reading 107 novels over the course of 2009. Since I’ve read 129 to date, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be that hard, plus a lot of the books can be used in the other challenges, so it won’t exactly be 107.

Thoughts of Joy did the 1st in Series Challenge this year and I had a blast with it, but it’s going to be hosted by J. Kaye’s Book blog this year. Either way, it’s back and I’m in. The details for this one is really rather simple.  Read 12 books that are the first in any series between Jan 1st and Dec 31st.  I’m getting ready to start the final book for this year’s challenge (I’m the Vampire, That’s Why by M. Bardsley), but I already have a whole list of series I want to start.  So coming up with a list wasn’t hard at all.  Here’s my 12 for next year:

  1. The Drakon by Shana Abe
  2. In Death by JD Robb
  3. Accidental Friends by Dakota Cassidy
  4. Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole
  5. The Onxy Court by Marie Brennan
  6. Kushiel by Jacqueline Carey
  7. Zombies (series title unknown) by Mark Henry
  8. Vampire Queen by Joey W. Hill
  9. Nocturne City by Caitlin Kittredge
  10. Cin Craven by Jenna MacLaine
  11. Lukien by John Marco
  12. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

This one is so up my alley and thank you Sidhe Vicious for pointing me to it.  The Paranormal 999 Challenge is being hosted by LibraryThing, but they also have a Yahoo Group where you can also sign up.

Alright, here’s the details: 9 books in 9 different categories, all read in 2009. For an added challenge, try completing your books by 9/9/09! Sounds simple enough if you’re up for 81 books of strictly paranormal creatures. Which means I can so totally do this challenge, if I didn’t have to worry about any others.  So while the idea is great, I’m limiting myself to 3 books in each category so I can still keep up with all the other books I have to read and review.

Alright, here are my 27 books in the 9 categories:

Demons
Speak of the Devil by Jenna Black
Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione
Demons Not Included by Cheyenne McCray

Midnight Alley by Rachel Caine
The Vampire Queen’s Servant by Joey W. Hill

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I’m going to have to check these challenges out. Aack…there are so many good ones out there :) I’m excited to join but don’t want to overdue it.

  2. I didn’t get to do 1st in Series Challenge with Joy this year and almost cried when she wasn’t going to do it in 2009. I didn’t see any choice since this and a few others she’d hosted were on my list for 2009. ;) So glad you are joining in the fun.
