Dancing with Werewolves by C.N. Douglas

I’ve been trying to read this book for awhile now, but I’m not finding it engaging at all. Dancing with Werewolves by Carole Nelson Douglas starts out interesting, but then it kind of slides downhill from there. The society Douglas tells her story in is kind of new and interesting, but she doesn’t do much with it. Or I should say she does too much with it. We first start in Kansas on a crime scene and this could lead into something good; but then Douglas moves the character, Delilah Street, to Vegas. Once we get to Vegas, so much is thrown at us that the storyline doesn’t really move along.

For the past two weeks, I’ve slowly been going through this and it’s not keeping me interested. Douglas does develop Delilah well, but it seems like that is all she’s doing. She slowly develops the plot around the character instead of the other way around. I love it when I can get inside the characters head, but without a plot, there isn’t much to do with the character.

Overall, the premise shows promise, but maybe I’m not in the right frame of mind for this novel. I’ll give it a try some other time, but right now it’s getting put aside. If anyone else out there has read it, I would be interested in knowing what you thought.

I am a 30-something SAHM with two adorable boys and a supportive husband who is very tolerant of my reading addiction. I love to read and easily go through about a dozen books a month – well I did before I had kids. Now, not so much. After my first son was born, I began to take my hobby of reviewing a little more serious and started Literary Escapism to help with my sanity. I love to discuss the fabulous novels I’ve read and meeting all the wonderful people in the book blogging community has been amazing.

  1. I thought the story was a crazy mess. It did not have a good flow and seemed totally unfocused. There was no smooth transition from scene to scene, everything felt so forced and heavy handed. There were also too many things left dangling at the end of the book. We were left with just as many questions at the end as when the story begin. It felt like I did not get anywhere with the story.

I am not that picky of a reader. I’ve had my book blog since 2006 and in that time I’ve only give 4-5books bad reviews. I don’t ask too much from a book; as long as I’m entertained I’m happy. Dancing with Werewolves just did not do it for me and I really felt I wasted my time with this book.

  2. This was the worst book I have read in a long time.

It was as UFR said a crazy mess.

I honestly thought I had read it all wrong until I saw the other reviews.
