Now I’m Scared…

Surburban Vampire has updated her list of vampire movies coming out over the next couple of years. She includes Eclipse on her list as well, with a release date occurring in 2012. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that pushed up since I’ve seen that Summit wants to release New Moon next year and IMDB has it scheduled for 2010.

Interviews:

Weekly Geeks and the Bookworms Carnival now have new homes.  With the passing of Dewey, a lot of us wanted to keep her projects going, but no one wanted to do it on their own.  Which I can’t blame anyone for.  It’s been a couple of weeks, but the Weekly Geeks have their new home over at www.weeklygeeks.com and the Bookworms Carnival is at www.bookwormscarnival.wordpress.com.  Weekly Geeks will be back the week of January 9th and the Carnival is still going on.  I’m actually hosting the first stop this month and I will be getting the post up as soon as I write my own Historical Fiction review.  So I will accept any submissions up until I get it posted (which I’m trying for sometime this week).

Just in time for the holidays, io9 has an interesting article about Santa.  They are not talking about your jolly fat man either; they are talking about those naughty Santas that Science Fiction and Fantasy were bound to show.

The National takes a look at fanfiction and how it has boomed over the years.  Something I didn’t know, the author found that 4/5 of all fanfic is written by females.  That’s including the Star Trek fanfic as well.  That’s kind of amazing.

Twilight News:

I saw this article on io9 over the weekend and it scares me…Jacob Black will not be in New Moon (while this article doesn’t say exactly that, the rumor going around is that Jacob is getting cut out of the movie and this seems to confirm that).  I think this could also be why Catherine Hardwicke is off the sequel.  According to the article, Catherine wanted to actually follow the book and not focus on Edward as much, but it doesn’t sound like Summit was on the same page as her.  Strangely enough, I can understand why they chose to cut out Jacob’s part, after all, New Moon is a pretty good size book and to get everything in two hours would be nearly impossible.  However, it’s still the major emotional part of New Moon!  I understand they want to focus on the Edward/Bella relationship, but the emotional trauma that Bella goes through because of Edward, that needs to be there as well.  Not only that, Jacob and the werewolves (that get introduced in New Moon, play some major parts in the following novels.  How they’ll end up working the wolves in is going to be tricky, but I’ll wait to see what they do.

In related news, Stephanie Meyer has confirmed that Chris Weitz (American Pie and The Golden Compass) has been named as the New Moon director. “I’ve had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible.” – Stephanie Meyer.  We’ll see when the movie comes out, right.

Going back to the io9, let’s see if their title gives away their feelings…Twilight Sequel Gets New Director, Plunges Towards Failure. They don’t sound too happy, do they.  Considering Chris Weitz record, I can see their fears.  However, I get the feeling that Meyer is a little control freakish when it comes to her work, so I’m really hoping that is true right now.
