The Literary Escapism Book Club

No matter how much we love our individual reading pursuits, half the fun of reading books is discussing them.  That’s where the idea for the LE book club comes in.

How does this book club work? It’s pretty easy actually. At the beginning of each month, anybody who is a part of the Literary Escapism GoodReads group will have the chance to “nominate” a book for for the following month.  One week later, the group will have a chance to vote for which book they want to read.  Voting will open be open for a week, that way we’ll be able to announce the winner two weeks before the next month starts – giving everyone a chance to get their hands on a copy.

At the end of each month, we’ll gather, not on GoodReads, but in LE’s chat room to discuss the book. The chat will include things such as what we thought of the characters and their relationships; was the plot too fast, too slow, or just right; would you consider reading anything else by this author; and a whole bevy of other questions regarding the book.  Although, who knows where the conversation will end up.  *grin*  Then, I’ll compile what everyone thought, whether they liked it or not, and post a review based on everyone’s opinion.

So what does everyone think?  You don’t have to be a member of GoodReads to participate, hence the reason we’re using the new spiffy chat room.  However, you will need to be in order to suggest and vote on the which novel gets considered.  We’re currently in the process of voting for August’s book. So head on over to our GoodReads group and help us decide what book is going to be our very first book club selection!

July’s Book

Since we’re in the earlier days of July, it didn’t make sense to wait a whole three weeks before anything started to happen with this. So, in that spirit, a book has been chosen by me – Night’s Cold Kiss by Tracey O’Hara. On July 28th at 9pm EST,  we’ll gather to discuss the book.

The tension between the Aeternus, an ancient vampiric people, and humanity has been mounting for over a century. But when rogue vampires begin to drain humans in order to achieve an illegal blood-high, all bets are off.

After the death of her parents, Antoinette Petrescu devoted her life to becoming one of the top Venators, the elite hunters who destroy the rogue Necrodreniacs. Her kill count is legendary and her skills superb.

But now the serial killer who killed her parents has returned. And to stop him Antoinette must join forces not only with the Aeternus, but also their most legendary killer. One that is both dangerously attractive, and involved in buried secrets of her past. More dangerous still, a dark attraction grows between them–one that could doom both races.

  1. I love this idea. This book does not work for me this month. I’m ok with the vampire characters..just not the killing. I’m such a wimp. I really want to see what next month brings. Have fun.

  2. oh snap! what a great idea. I will post this over at the Supernatural Underground so Tracey knows!

  3. i love this idea, and i love this book, read it and looking forward to #2 in 2011. would read book #1 again.

  4. I would be interested in taking part but the discussion time is not really European friendly. Does the discussion have to take place in a chat room at a certain time? I really like the idea!

    • Mmm….we could attempt to make it European Time Friendly. How far ahead of us are you Amber? No, the discussion can occur any time and the chat room is always open. It’s just not very full since not a lot of people use it currently. I’m hoping to change that and for it to be an ongoing place where people can come to discuss books. Still working on getting people to join in. *grin*
