Got a question for you. What is better than finding a copy of Kelley Armstrong’s Waking the Witch in the mail? How about two copies? Thanks to the generous people at Wunderkind PR, I get to give away an ARC of Waking the Witch – this is one of those times when I love what I do.
At twenty-one, Savannah Levine-orphaned daughter of a notorious dark witch and an equally notorious cutthroat sorcerer-considers herself a full-fledged member of the otherworld. The once rebellious teen has grown into a six-foot-tall, motorcycle-riding jaw-dropper, with an impressive knowledge of and ability to perform spells. The only problem is, she’s having a hard time convincing her adoptive parents, Paige and Lucas, to take her seriously as an adult. She’s working as the research assistant at the detective agency they founded, and when they take off on a romantic vacation alone, leaving her in charge, Savannah finds herself itching for a case to call her own. (She’s also itching for Adam, her longtime friend and colleague, to see her as more than just a little girl, but that’s another matter.)
Suddenly, Savannah gets the chance she’s been waiting for: Recruited by another supernatural detective, she travels to Columbus, Washington, a small, dying town. Two troubled young women have been found in an abandoned warehouse, murdered. Now a third woman’s dead, and on closer inspection small details point to darker forces at play. Savannah feels certain she can handle the case, but with signs of supernatural activity appearing at every turn, things quickly become more serious- and far more dangerous-than she realizes.
Waking the Witch is the eleventh novel in Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series and I’ve been told you could read this as a stand alone. Granted, reading the previous novels will give you a little more character development on a few of the supporting members (or so I’m assuming), but if you’ve been wanting to try this series, why not start now?
So how do you enter? Easy. As with all of LE’s contests, all you have to do is answer this question: Who is your favorite character from Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series and why? If you haven’t read the series, what is it about the series that makes you want to?
In order to enter, you have to answer the above question(s). As always, there’s more ways of getting your name in the hat (these aren’t mandatory to enter, just extra entries for anyone who really wants to win):
- +1 for each place you post about today’s contest on your blog, social network, or anywhere you can. Digg it, stumble it, twit it, share it with the world. Wherever you share it, make sure you add a link to it along with your answer.
- +1 to any review you comment on, however, comments must be meaningful. Just give me the title of the review and I’ll be able to figure it out from there.
- +1 for entering Loucinda McGary’s contest for a copy of The Wild Irish Sea. (contest has ended)
- +1 for entering Kathryne Kennedy’s contest for a copy of The Fire Lord’s Lover.
- +1 If you are a follower of Literary Escapism on Facebook and/or Twitter
- +10 Purchase any novel through LE’s Amazon store or the Book Depository sometime during this contest and send a copy of the receipt VIA email for your purchase to: jackie AT literaryescapism DOT com. Each purchase is worth ten entries.
There is one thing I am adding to my contests now…the winner must post a review of the novel someplace. Whether it is on their own blog, Amazon, GoodReads, LibraryThing or wherever, it doesn’t matter. Just help get the word out.
The contest will stay open until July 20th, at which time I’ll determine the winner with help from the Research Randomizer and the List Randomizer.
I have not been contacting winners, so you will need to check back to see if you’ve won.
I like Paige the best. Although we are not really alike, she is the one that I identify with the most. She also shows the most growth during the series.
I follow you on facebook and twitter and will share this on both.
I love Elena’s character the most. The struggle of her accepting her place in the pack and now being groomed as the first woman Alpha ever is just great character fodder. Also her loyalty to her family and children is something I really identify with.
+1 for sharing contest

How cool is that? While I’m really excited that Savannah now gets her own book, but Elena is still my favorite. I love her toughness of attitude and snarky sense of humor, especially in Bitten, one of my all time favorite books.

Thanks for hosting, Jackie!
Elena is my favorite. She is strong and independent. VERY smart and I like how she thinks things out. The men look to her as a problem solver and I like that.
I haven’t had a chance to start the Women of the Otherworld series yet, but the more I hear about it, the more I realize that I’m really missing out, especially after reading the description of the newest book. I have some of the books on my TBR shelf, and I’ll be getting started on them soon.
+1 Entered Loucinda McGary’s contest for – The Wild Irish Sea.
Which female character? Elena. She is coming to terms with the parts of her life that she is uncomfortable with or scared of. In every book, she copes with a little bit more.
Male Character? Nick. There’s more to him than meets the eye. I hope to see him develop a bit more and maybe even have his own story, even if it’s a short one.

I would have to say Paige. She has this resilience to her that no matter what is thrown at her she seems to handle it with a fumbling grace that I can relate to.

Thanks!
I like Jamie Vegas the best. Because she is soo cool! plus I like the chemistry between her and Jeremy. I loved when they finally got together.
My favorite character is Elena because she’s strong and bold. But I would still really love to see a novel starring Cassandra. I think she has a great story to tell!
I actually like Eve the best. She started out as a villain but her character has totally evolved, and Armstrong has written her character so well that I feel like I really understand her, and I really appreciate that.

I can’t wait for Kelley’s new book! Thanks for doing this.
My favorite character is Elena, followed closely by Clay and Jamie. I started the series from the beginning with Bitten and fell in love the wolf pack. Elena’s struggles with fitting in and making a life for herself have captured me from the beginning. She’s strong, smart, and she kicks butt. What more could you ask for. :)

My favorite character is still Paige, because I started with her in Dime Store Magic. I also like Savannah, and am curious to see how she grows up.

My favorite character is Clay. I like the way that nothing is more important than his loved ones.
I follow on FB (Elyane Lemay) and I shared on FB but don’t know how to show it.
I really like Elena. She has really had to change after her rough start and has proven to be a great strong character. And I love her with Clay.

Thanks for the great giveaway!
Can’t wait for this one! I like them all but I guess I’d have to go with Elena for her strong and independent nature. I am curious about Savannah’s story though!

Paige is my favorite character. She has so much common sense and is so responsible all the time.
I love werewolves and I’d love to read this series, but I’ve just got too many other books on my TBR pile. I’ll get to it one of these days. I always start at the beginning of a series, so winning this book, would force me to buy the first book and would move it to the top of the TBR.
